Gov. Scott Walker’s lack of a college diploma not an issue Willie Wilson well?

    in Current Events

Join us today at 5:30 CST as we raised the question:

Why is it that Gov. Scott Walker‘s lack of a college diploma not matter to some voters but Chicago’s mayoral candidate Willie Wilson 7th grade education does?

Is formal education the only path to knowledge and is educational attainment the magic bullet that leads to effective leadership?

In the case of Dr. Wilson some have taken issue with his pattern of speech, Consequently questioning his ability to lead the city of  Chicago, articulation is that the only mark of great leadership?

Episode #6: A Hundred Tongues of the Heart

    in Art

Tune into episode #6, on Tuesday, January 20th at 4pm. It's a new secular year, with new moon in Aquarius and another Mercury Retrograde riding her coattails. The Republic is ready to roll, come what may - broadcasting from Radiodress' new apartment in the century old, Garden City-style Spruce Street co-op, just up the street from Regent Park.

This month, we're thinking about home in all its shapes: housing stability/precarity, nation-states and our sacred temple-bodies. We're paying homage across the winter airwaves to the 4 and counting deaths of homeless folks in Toronto. We're longing for a progressive Jewish articulation of diaspora and how violence in Paris doesn't have to translate into support for the Zionist project. We're trying trying trying to open our hearts, and make a move to heal through our communities, our interconnectedness and some fine transformative beats.

    Listen in for:

    - a conversation with the inimitable Leah Lakshmi Piepzna Samarasinha, aka brownstargirl on her explosively successful Healing Justice for Black Lives Matter project

    - from the Archive: Fannie Lou Hamer's transcendent deputation at the 1968 Democratic convention in which she shared the realities of what Freedom Summer meant to black woman, workers and sharecroppers and why registering to vote humanized her and her comrades

    - a handmade, homemade DJ set by Toronto's own DJ Mama Knows, mashing up the plethora of new music coming from the Black Lives Matter movement

    - readings from Coco Fusco on Cuban artist Tania Bruguera's recent detention; poetry by Niigaanwewidam James Sinclair; music from tUne-yArDs and more...

Mind, Will, Emotions: Thoughts, Feelings & Actions

    in Self Help

Empowered in Every Call – Saturday, October 18, 2014

Topic: Mind, Will Emotions: Thoughts, Feelings & Actions

Description: This week's show focuses on the 3 step process to changing the way you think change the way you speak change the way you live: change your words change your world. Most people believe that you feel, think and then act, however, because thought waves move so quickly that by the time most people figure out that they have reacted it’s too late. There is a pattern of thinking that takes place in order to get the best results in communication and articulation. To articulate your words and actions in such a way that it yields you best results then you must improve on your 3 step process: think feel and then act. Slow down your reactions and turn them into responses move from aggressive to assertive. This week you will learn what the mind does, how the will works and how the emotions act.

Sisters of Comedy: There Is Revolutionary Power in Women's Laughter!

    in Self Help

Join us on Wednesday, October 29,  2014 7pm on Blog Talk Radio for Black Women in Conversation with Agunda Okeyo , African Feminist and Producer of Sisters of Comedy, for a provocative conversation on laughter, women, feminism and resistance.

Why is laughter wonderful, healthy and yet so fleeting for Feminists? Great scholars, feminists and womanists--Alice Walker for example, June Jordan, Pat Parker, bell hooks, and we can’t help but think of the great Maya Angelou when she said: "My great hope is to laugh as much as I cry; to get my work done and try to love somebody and have the courage to accept the love in return."

This conversation among Black women will offer a position from which to talk about laughing, as feminists as womanists, as women of color, “as a means of breaking silence and as coinciding with the self-articulation of women on their own terms.” Activist, Writer, Producer Agunda Okeyo joins us as we talk of the difference between silencing humor and humor that breaks silence. This Wednesday, 7pm we ponder, what would it look like for humor to serve as a practice of feminist resistance?

The Man Pill--Male Contraception, Are We Ready?

    in Health

Chris and Dr. Corey explore the science and psychology of male contraception. For some, it is a dream come true to have a man's birth control pill and for others it is unfathomable, unrealistic, and worse than a made for TV film about the undead.
