Phil has been a lover of all things aquatic since childhood and, like many hobbyists, kept aquariums and terrariums while growing up. He got into the hobby seriously in 1997 and got into keeping aquatic plants soon thereafter in an attempt to make a more natural environment for his fish His interest in plants quickly overtook his interest in fish and hasn't looked back. While attending UNC-Charlotte, Phil started volunteering for the Aquatic Gardeners Association in 2003 and was elected to the Board of Directors in 2008. Over the years he's been a judge for the AGA's aquascaping contest, been the organization's liaison to the industry, and is currently the advertising liaison for the AGA's print journal; TAG. He holds degrees in biology and earth sciences focusing on plant ecology and water resources. In 2011 he completed a Masters in Earth Science doing research in aquatic substrates and their influence on the growth of submersed aquatic plants. He recently started working for Brightwell Aquatics doing product development and technical support, among other things. He's currently working on filling his basement with aquariums starting with a 300 gallon Dutch style planted system.
So many people have a huge interest in Aquatic plants and Phil will share a wealth of information with our listeners !!
