On Tuesday, January 3, 2011 our New York City basketball community lost another valuable member to the lives of so many of our young. Robert (Apache) Paschall, who built nationally recognized girls basketball programs on the AAU and high school levels while becoming a lightning rod for controversy because of his rapid success and alleged recruiting tactics, was pronounced dead on Tuesday at New York Downtown Hospital. He was 38. Rickey Rivers (Funsport) and Anton Marchand (Rose Class

Prophecykeepers - Jay Lonewolf, Colorblind Apache Painter
Jay Lonewolf Morales is an astonishing painter that suffers from monochromacy – complete color blindness — the rarest and most uncommon form of color blindness. He is one of only five in the world that suffers from achromatopsia, or rod monochromacy, which also affects sensitivity to light. The artist can only see in black and white and shades of grey, yet all of his paintings are done with vivid colors. As Morales puts it, he has the eyes of a cat, but he sees like a dog. But eve

RICK MORA-ACTOR
Planted in the womb of my mother, a seed from the Sun. Birthed in a field of corn called Los Angeles but raised on 100 acre cattle farm in Crescent City, California. Born Yaqui and Apache of Mexican Indian descent, a native man raised from the land with no electricity, no plumbing, a wood burning stove and mother who possessed the powers of mother earth.
Returning to civilization for an education by socialized America, I acquired a bachelor’s degree from California State University, Northridge. After college I was encouraged by a friend to meet his modeling agent. My life would never be the same. It was legendary male super model agent Omar Alberto’s idea to try the Native Man in the modeling business. Having successfully shot with great photographers like Carlos Reynosa, Cliff Watts and Matthew Rolston allowed me the access to American & European commercial and modeling market. I was then booking great commercial & print accounts like Toyota, Wilson Leather and Anson’s Germany. Small spots in Television, Film and Voice soon followed. Auditioning and not landing roles with Disney / Jungle Book and Mel Gibson / Apacolypto were a just a few inspirations that kept me going till landing a small scene in the blockbuster movie TWILIGHT as Native #1 Jacob Black’s great great grandfather, EPHRAIM BLACK, leader of the original Werewolf Tribe. Life has not been the same since.
I have completed production on Yellow Rock with Michael Biehn, James Russo and the Spears Brothers. Yellow Rock has received 18 film awards and has acquired worldwide distribution for 2013. The Dead and the Damned has been very well received with world wide distribution, placement in Red Box as well as the national chains. Just wrapped fom “Little Boy” starring Sean Astin.Tags: actor model movies native american APACHE

Big Data and OpenSource
The Apache Hadoop software library is a framework that allows for the distributed processing of large data sets across clusters of computers using simple programming models. It is designed to scale up from single servers to thousands of machines, each offering local computation and storage. Rather than rely on hardware to deliver high-avaiability, the library itself is designed to detect and handle failures at the application layer, so delivering a highly-availabile service on top of a cluster of computers, each of which may be prone to failures. Cloudera's open-source Apache Hadoop distribution, CDH , targets enterprise-class deployments of that technology

Doug Hocking Western Author is my guest. Website: www.doughocking.com Doug Hocking is an independent scholar and author of fiction who has completed advanced studies in History, Ethnography and Historical Archaeology and lives and breathes Way Out West. His principal interest is in New Mexico Territory from the Mexican War up through the Civil War. It was an exciting period when the land was new and isolated from the rest of the country and violence ran at its high mark. Following leads from source to end he is learning about the Santa Fe Trail, the Fur Trade, the Mexican and Civil Wars, the Apache, the Penitentes and percussion cap weapons.
“I’ve found that the way to know history is to learn about the tools people used, the landscape, the trails, the climate and the economics of the times until the options open to people begin to make sense. I try to express that both in fiction and history writing.”Tags: Western Author Author of Outlaws and Lawmen Author of Marshall of Arizona Author of Dead or Alive Author of Devil on the Loose

Today's 5th May, 2013 episode includes: From Point of Inquiry hosted by Chris Mooney:
Back in the summer of 2011—just before the 10 year anniversary of 9/11—this show welcomed on Scott Atran, an anthropologist who is a leading expert on terrorism and violent extremism. Now, in the wake of the Boston bombings and the dramatic capture of suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, we called Atran back to discuss the first large scale U.S. terrorist bombing since 9/11. As Atran's research shows, the Tsarnaev brothers share many parallels with other young, disaffected men who opt for extremist violence around the world. ...
And from the New Books Network hosted today by Marshall Poe: Most people today think of war–or really violence of any sort–as for the most part useless. It’s better, we say, just to talk things out or perhaps buy our enemies off. And that usually works. But what if you lived in a culture where fighting was an important part of social status and earning a living? What if, say, you couldn’t get married unless you had gone to war? What if, say, you couldn’t feed your family without raiding your enemies? Such was the case with Chiricahua Apache of the Southwest. As Lance R. Blyth shows in his terrific book Chirichahua and Janos: Communities of Violence in the Southwestern Borderlands, 1680-1880 (Nebraska UP, 2012), war was a necessary part of Chiricahua life, at least in the 17th and 18th centuries. They needed to fight the Spanish in Janos, and there was nothing the Spanish could really do to stop them, at least in the long term. ... Listen to Lance tell the fascinating story.
