Closet is very deep for gay college basketball coaches

    in LGBT

Fear. Depression. Anxiety. Thoughts of suicide. These are some of the emotions gleaned from closeted gay and lesbian coaches Outsports talked to during the men's Final Four in Indianapolis. Despite the progress society has made on gay issues, these coaches feel that their careers would be over if they ever came out publicly. So they hide or contemplate quitting the sport they love. One female coach said she knows of 50 closeted lesbian coaches. There are no openly gay male or female Division I coaches in the U.S.

The podcast also interviews writer Erik Hall, who has profiled several openly gay athletes, his latest being a college cross country runner.

    More On Anti Gay Bigots

    in Politics Progressive

On the April 2, 2015 episode of Liberal Dan Radio:

The topics of several recent shows come together to form this show. It is kind of like a Voltron of bigotry and internet stupidity. I will be continuing my discussion about the law in Indiana, what Governor Pense is claiming that he will do about it now, and why other states laws are nothing like the Indiana law that was just recently passed.

I will also talk about the Conservative backlash to criticism of the Indiana law and why they are following the same formula I described previously in a show (i.e.that it is more important on the internet to be popular than to be correct).

Those issues, headlines, tweet of the week, and more this week on Liberal Dan Radio: Talk From The Left, That's Right.

Anti Gay Legislation - Religious Freedom or Freedom to Discriminate

    in Politics

From Indiana to Louisiana right-wing governors are supporting and signing legislation that allows businesses to discriminate against same-sex couples. Pizza Parlors, Florists, Photographers, Beds and Breakfasts, and other business have said they would refuse service, or actually have refused service to same sex couples.

20 states have passed some forms of religious freedom laws - including Connecticut, and Rhode Island - which shocked the bleep out of me. Religious freedom laws are pending in 6 states - North Carolina, Georgia, Hawaii (seriously?), Michigan, Arizona, and Nevada. Similar legislation has failed in 6 states - including Utah, which also surprised me. 18 states, plus Washington, D.C. do NOT have current legislation similar the the RFRA's pending or recently passed.

Do these governors and state legislators understand that states rights cannot usurp a persons' constitutional rights? "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion..."

I bet you know where I stand on this issue, but I want to know where you stand - and why.

Let's explore the rights - and wrongs of these laws.

I hope you will join me.

    in Politics Progressive

How Gay Marriage Can Undo Our Most Basic Liberties and Truths

    in Politics Conservative

As I promised yesterday, I made the decision to do a special show today on this issue of gay marriage yet again.  I know, it's old hat for me, old hat for this show, old hat for some of you.  But I saw an article a couple of days ago that as I said, to me it's a most read for all Americans with what the Supreme Court is hearing arguments over right now.  I'll have that article on the Facebook page so you can read it.  But I wanted to discuss some of the finer points of it today, because to me it really hits on not only what has happened in Canada with the legalizing of gay marriage 10 years ago.  It hits on what is already beginning in the United States.  I'll try to reference how on the show today, beginning at 4:30 Eastern time and archived afterward.
