The faceless cabal of hactivists and Internet bandits known as Anonymous possesses the power to bring websites to their knees, and it poses a quandary to the modern world: should we tolerate Anonymous or not? Is there a question of "tolerating" a group that appears virtually indestructible? Are they criminals or saviours? Should we fear or admire them? Do they deserve respect? Can they be said to have an agenda, and if so -- what is it? Can they be trusted? Will their effect be good or bad for humankind overall? Stephen & Steve use analytic astrology to probe at the roots and future of this mysterious, powerful group.
Also on the table for discussion are recent events on the global political scene, including the latest controversial Israeli action against the al-Aqsa mosque, and the unsurprising-yet-overwhelming GOP victory in the midterm elections.

In 2011, Karla Brada Mendez was strangled to death by Eric Allen Earle, a man she met at a 12-step meeting. Anonymity rules help obscure people with criminal records, and many new members, especially women, report being the targets of unwanted sexual advances. Dozens of women wrote to tell me what one study already showed, that a majority are harassed. Many are groped and some are raped. Some are even murdered.

Some say he's a serial killer. Others, a vigilante doing what police can't or won't do. What's certain is that Dean Drayhart, a paraplegic, will soon sit on death row for killing hit-and-run drivers in Los Angeles. But not if the Mexican Mafia gets hold of him first. Somewhere, Dean's trained companion monkey Sid and girlfriend Cinda are outrunning the law in a fast '98 Trans Am. The Los Angeles Sheriff's Department wants Sid, dead or alive. Dean may be broken in body but his fierce spirit is determined to protect Sid and Cinda in the most creative ways imaginable. Hardboiled, funny, relentless, and unexpectedly tender-hearted, Bite Harder delivers riotous action all the way to a bombshell climax that could only have been written by Anonymous-9, the self-declared mad scientist of crime fiction.
Praise for Bite Harder
"Brilliantly, brutally funny, so real you can taste it. Starring Sid, the cutest serial-killing helper monkey in all fiction." — Douglas Lindsay, author of the Barney Thomson novels
"Bite Harder is part screwball comedy, part killer crime story entirely unlike anything else out there. It is unique and vicious and bloody funny but what kept me turning pages deep into the night was its heart. I loved Hard Bite, and Bite Harder is even better, stronger, wilder." — Josh Stallings, Beautiful, Naked & Dead
"Few books have a killer monkey, and fewer still have a writer as funny, incisive, and down-and-dirty brilliant as Anonymous-9." — Benjamin Whitmer, Cry Father

This week on Beyond the Veil, we will be discussing the additions to the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2015 (or the #NDAA) and how the new pilot program effectively legalizes the NSA Spy Programs. For those who are not as familiar with the NDAA, we will also give a brief summary of what the bill has done since we first started warning of its dangers in 2011. We will also be looking at further legalization of unconstitutional spying has taken place through the #IAA, or Intelligence Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2015. Join Switchblade and Orlando Phoenix of Anonymous North Texas tonight at 7pm Central.
As one who always loved to immerse his face in the stream of life, let's talk about people who want to run away from it. Memoirs is about those who do in fact flee the challenge of life and seek refuge, in their case not in a bottle but rather in the nuthouse. Of course, enough bottle and the nuthouse (or prison or death) is just one more slip away. As a shrink I knew and worked with many people who were addicted, especially to booze. In fact, I often took them to their first AA meeting, something few shrinks do. No, I wasn't a member, but there are open meetings. I would try to arrange for one of my other clients who was living sober to be there for that same meeting. Funny coincidence...NOT! I would just say, "Hey Matt, this is Cathy. She can help you understand what's happening maybe go with you to a regular meeting." That helped a lot of people get their start in recovery.
So what does that have to do with my writing? Well, drunks tell great stories. I have another book, "Tales From the Dew Drop Inne", that tells the story of the gang who hang at that bar, which I set in Albuquerque. Not too surprisingly, the gang goes to find one of their number at a meeting to get him to be part of their bar softball team. Well, you can imagine what happens, but we can talk it.
A case we are following very closely is that of Barrett Brown. He has been jailed for over two years, having been raided and arrested while on TinyChat. His charges are basically bs. the hyperbolic YouTube rant that led to his arrest, was that of an angry citizen, at his wits end, lashing out at his oppressor, and has unfortunately been taken way too seriously. after accepting a plea deal earlier this year, with a maximum of 8 1/2 years, he was due to be sentenced this week. This was much less than the over 100 years prosecutors were pushing for.
