Taylor's Detroit Sports Show - Tigers Edition - Sun., 8/24/14 11-11:30 PM EST

    in Baseball

A weekly look at the 2014 Detroit Tigers, where they stand after each previous week in the regular season, and the predictions of each week ahead.

The Tigers take 2 of 3 from the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field when they should've swept them, and then get blown out twice by the Twins to start the 4-game weekend series and fall way behind the Kansas City Royals in the American League Central Division Standings.

Injuries can no longer be the excuse.

Kyle Lobstein indeed should temporarily fill in for Anibal Sanchez, who is "feeling better".  Forget Robbie Ray and Buck Farmer, who both were blown out way too early. They will never be major-league caliber.

Time is running out on the waiver trade deadline.

James McCann should've been called up 2 or 3 months ago.

Taylor's Detroit Sports Show - Tigers Edition - Sun., 8/3/14 11-11:30 PM EST

    in Baseball

A weekly look at the 2014 Detroit Tigers, where they stand after each previous week in the regular season, and the predictions of each week ahead.

RECAP: The Tigers take Monday off before opening a 6-game homestand with a 3-game series against the Chicago White Sox and then wrapping it up with a 3-game series against the Colorado Rockies.

PREVIEW: The Tigers go back on the road out east and take on the New York Yankees in The Bronx and then go up north to Canada and pluck feathers with the Toronto Blue Jays, who are on the chase for 1st in the AL East but have to get through the Baltimore Orioles, while the rest of that division is struggling but not quite laboring.

The Tigers pick up one-time Cy-Young-award-winning starting pitcher David Price from the Tampa Bay Rays in a 3-team trade. They trade Austin Jackson to the Seattle Mariners and Drew Smyly to the Rays.

The 7th-inning pitching woes for the Tigers continue but then end this weekend, thanks to Rick Porcello and Anibal Sanchez.

Bless You Boys Podcast 86: The Singing Hot Dog Man

    in Baseball

In this week's Bless You Boys Podcast, Kurt, Al and HookSlide look back at the past week of Tigers baseball, the possible return of Jhonny Peralta, the AL Cy Young race, ump shows, breaking unwritten baseball rules and sing about The Singing Hot Dog Man. Bless You Boys Podcast 86 has a running time of 1:08 and features Al Beaton, along with the singing debuts of HookSlide, and Kurt Mensching.
Topics include: A 4 1/2 game lead? DOOOOOM. The Tigers' lead is back to six? Never mind. Jhonny Peralta is working out with the team. Does Peralta's rejoining the team ensure he'll be activated when the suspension ends? Should he be? Should morality play into this decision at all? Peralta in left field. Good or bad idea? Who should be worried about being left off the playoff roster if Peralta is activated? Max Scherzer, Anibal Sanchez and the AL Cy Young. On top of being injured, Miguel Cabrera is slumping. The future of Omar Infante. Ump show? Ump show! Charlie Marcuse, aka The Singing Hot Dog Man is fired for being anti-ketchup. The Marlins' Jose Fernandez hits a home run, breaks several unwritten baseball rules. Braves react as if Fernandez (and his world class "I don't give a shit" face) is Public Enemy Number One. Which team do you HATE?

The Knee Jerks: Eno and Big Al

    in Sports

Long-time Detroit sports bloggers and podcasters, Greg Eno (aka the Voice of Reason), and Big Al Beaton are The Knee Jerks! Eno and Big Al broadcast live every Monday night at 7PM Eastern on the Sports Geeks Radio Network!
The Knee Jerks return after a week's hiatus caused by the desktop Al used to record the podcast dying, and there's plenty to discuss!
First off, Adam Biggers, the lead Michigan State Spartans columnist for Bleacher Report, joins us for his bi-weekly Adam Rants segement, this week taking on Michigan's QB situation.
The rest of the show is all Pistons and Tigers. The Pistons hired Maurice Cheeks to be their new head coach, which leads us to wonder if this Joe Dumars' last stand as general manager..
As for the Tigers Jose Valverde's struggles as closer has left the bullpen in disarray (again), what relief options are available, Anibal Sanchez may be dealing with a shoulder issue, and what to do with the badly slumping Alex Avila. Despite all the bad news, the Tigers are in fine shape in the standings.
All that, plus "Whose Birthday Is It?" (at stake tonight: watch bands!), and "Jerk of the Week"!
