Profile: Andy Berman (Electroboy)

A lot of manic depressives already display the early signs of their disorder while they were still young. Andy Berman was no different. At the age of seven or eight, he was already obsessive compulsive who loved to do constant counting, checking, and cleaning. Yet it was completely undiagnosed, as the people around him saw him perfectly fine.
It was already in the 1980s when he went to college in Wesleyan University. That’s when he started to spiral out of control. The easy access of drugs, sex, and alcohol only worsened his condition as he experienced a lot of manic episodes. When that happened, he was the star of the party, one of the best people to be with. He was bursting with energy that anyone easily gravitated toward him. Nevertheless, the bipolar disorder was also leading him the wrong directions that he almost failed in school.

World Kitchen Presents Wedding Day Radio: Leah McCarthy

Planning an outdoor wedding? Fabulous! Just be sure to take a tip from Weddings with Leah host Leah McCarthy. “The most obvious detail to consider is the weather. Not only rain, but here in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, we have to take into consideration the heat. And the time of year we choose,” she says. “We can of course say our prayers. But when Mother Nature’s involved, you never know what’ll happen. So you want to make sure you have a contingency plan. Often at popular outdoor venues, there will be some indoor space nearby that can be easily switched. And if you do choose a hot month, you’ll want to keep your guests comfortable. So be sure to have some cold drinks available before the ceremony, and perhaps even some towels on ice with lemon slices.”

Sure your wedding guests shed a tear as you tie the knot and smooch the groom, but what’s not-so-secretly on the minds of many during the ceremony is, What’s to eat? So catering should always be at the top of every couple’s list. “Guests want to be able to recognize the food. And when their bellies are welcomed with that yummy comfort food their mamas made, they’re very happy guests,” says Weddings with Leah host Leah McCarthy. “So when first meeting with your caterers, ask them how they’d incorporate your theme into the menu. That will add more surprises in terms of conveying who you and your groom are. One popular way to start the reception is offering a signature drink at the bar. But be sure to ask how many bartenders the bartender will have per guest. I recommend per 50 guests for a full bar, and one per 75 for a beer and wine bar.”
