In the process of evolution, studying where one comes from is necessary. Without this discipline, one is doomed to repeat the same mistake over and over again.
The concept of Sankofa was birthed from the Akan tradition and highlights this idea. Sankofa means to go back and fetch it.
The symbol is of a bird that is looking back but moving forward. This symbol really speaks to going back to the traditions of African thought and retrieving the highest ideals of our legacy in order evolve to the next step.
Because of this, it is important to scrutinize where our ancestors left off and look at those ideals to see what can work for you and what you should let go.
PLEASE SUPPORT OUR EFFORTS!
As promised, this is the corrected & fused together, proper rendering of this show.
A few months ago, the annual SANKOFA CONFERENCE, celebrated 25 years of uncompromising Afrikan Centeredness. I have been lucky to attend about 14 of these.
Today, we shall share the lead article by the Creators of the conference, Baba Agyei & Mama Akua Akoto entitled
A NARROW AND WELL WORN ROAD: EKWAN OBININI (eh-kwan Oh-bee-nee-nee),
where they reflect on their own 30-plus organizational experience--where they have been & where they still have to go. Ideally other SERIOUS groups are to use this model to guage their own development and adjust accordingly...and if not, they should go away quietly.
Join us for a wonderful conversation with entrepreneur Nishon Adams as he shares the meaning behind is incredible growing brand Sankofa Schematics. Learn how we can change our behaviors by truly understanding where we came from and who we really are. A great show for young men and women. During last week's show, Amirah and I established that truth-telling should be part of any relationship. Yet, it's harder to tell the truth than one may think, upon first consideration. Even though truth-telling among all men is an issue, we are focusing upon African American men. Do WE really want to tell the truth? We want to welcome Russell Ligon, author of Stuck On Maleness, as our guest for the show. We're going to get to the truth, no pun intended. Tune in Monday at 10 p.m.!!!
