Defending the Constitution and Conservative Values
The 1st Amendment of the Constitution is one of the cornerstones of American society. As such, it has always been the subject of debate, contention and support. But as of late, the 1st Amendment has come under increased attack from many fronts. Most notably, from Liberals and those who have pure political agendas that absoulutely oppose anyone who has a philosophy contrary to their own. As part of the continuing Constitution Series, we'll discuss- verbatum- what the 1st Amendment says and the opposition to it in the past and today.
In the first hour we talked about Sandra Fluke's statement that that the girls being held captive by Boko Haram should “count themselves lucky” they weren't being held captive by Republicans. We also talked about the effort to remove Andrew Jackson from the $20 bill and replace him with a woman. In the second hour we talked about the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. What makes a citizen? Is Ted Cruz eligible to be president? Are "anchor babies" legal? Does equal protection under the law apply to same-sex marriage? Let's talk about it and I'll take calls on these topics.
On today's show, I want to focus on two recent statements that make individuals such as myself and probably many of you nervous or even offended when politicians say such things. Surrounded by their supporters and like minded individuals, in recent weeks presumed Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton and our current president Barack Obama have uttered things that make one wonder if the first amendment even matters to them. I'll talk about what both of them said, as well as some general commentary on abortion, sanctity of life, freedom of religion, and this economy of Barack Obama's today on the show. Listen live at 4:30 PM Eastern, or listen on the archives afterward. Check out the Facebook page and follow the show on Blog Talk as well.
Show time 8AM-10AM EST
Do you know what the 14th really says? Maybe you do, maybe you don't. Get ready for some possible controversial interpretations of the 14th Amendment of the Constitution of the United States of America. Two fellow "experts" in the field of political commentary will be joining me as we talk about the good, the bad and the ugly of the 14th. This discussion will surely be thought provoking. The online chat room will be open and if you want to join the conversation live on air just call 855-236-2486.
Around 9:15AM EST Congressman and ex-Governor of South Carolina will join me as we discuss several important issues. Budget issues, national security issues, like the USA Freedom Act and the recent vote on the National Defense Authorization Act in the House are certainly on my list.
Yep, I have a feeling it just might be an interesting day "In the Pickle Barrel".
With same-sex marriage battle lost — waiting only for the SCOTUS cymbal clap in June, wingers are pig piling on a new ploy. In numerous states, legislatures are pretending to protect religious freedom from the inevitable and fearful persecution from dem damn gays.
I'll kick around Indiana's worst-in-class blunders in trying this ruse.
POTUS hopeful, Gov. Mike Pence (R, of course) signed a bill into law that pretty much lets anyone for any reason discriminate against LGBT potential customers. Poorly disguised as protecting citizen's First Amendment rights to exercise religion, it instead is an atavistic license to ignore statutes, case law and morality.
Pence seemed to figure the Hoosier lawmakers were being oh, so clever in patterning the bill after the 1993 federal Religious Freedom Restoration Act. Wrong there. The RFRA was yet another cowardly and ill-considered Pres. Bill Clinton effort to appease wingers.Yet Indiana's version is worse, even legislatively malignant.
I'll get into the concepts of balancing exercise of religion with both commerce and respect as required by federal law. We can be very sure Pence and his minions are having similar discussions following the nationwide blowback to Indiana's overreach.

Discussion and Questions with Ron March of The Ron March Show in Detroit!
The 14th amendment to the US Constitution was ratified on July 9, 1868 during the Reconstruction era. It, along with the 13th and 15th amendments are collectively known as the Reconstruction amendments. Its broad goal was to ensure that the Civil Rights Act passed in 1866 would remain valid ensuring that "all persons born in the United States...excluding Indians not taxed...." were citizens and were to be given "full and equal benefit of all laws." (Quotes from the Civil Rights Act of 1866) However, it went beyond the provisions of the Civil Rights Act in many ways.
4 Key Clauses:
State and federal citizenship for all persons regardless of race both born or naturalized in the United States was reaffirmed.
No state would be allowed to abridge the "privileges and immunities" of citizens.
No person was allowed to be deprived of life, liberty,or property without "due process of law."
No person could be denied "equal protection of the laws."
Tune in as Ron March discusses the 14 TH amendment and what we should know.
