Indie Books Show #63 (Elaine Calloway)

    in Books

Tune in and join me as I welcome this week's guest.
Author Elaine Calloway joins me this week to talk about her books.  We'll focus on her latest: No Grits No Glory the first in her Southern Ghosts series and we'll also talk about her Elemental Clan series.
    From No Grits No Glory:
Brianna fled down South to Savannah to escape the voices of the dead. Just when she thought she’d left all paranormal things behind, she discovers her house is haunted—by a family of Southern ghosts. These persistent beings not only hide her white shoes after Labor Day, but they wreak havoc on her life to convince her to help them bring their killer to justice. Steven put Savannah in his rearview mirror years ago to follow his passion for music. When his band splits up and he can’t reach his little sister for weeks, he races home—only to learn his whole family died in a mysterious house fire. The house Brianna now lives in. Together, Brianna and Steven learn who murdered Steven’s family and become caught in a web of intrigue that will threaten their careers, their homes--but especially their lives.

Indie Books Show #61 (Kimberly McKay)

    in Books

Tune in and join me as I welcome this week's guest.

Author Kimberly McKay joins me this week to talk about her books Finding Kylie, Facing Redemption, Coming Home and more.

From Finding Kylie:  What if … after laying your mother to rest, the mother who has been the only real family you’ve ever known, you discover her secretive past in a set of hidden journals? What would you do if she was the only link to the father you never knew ... a father you’ve been told was dead, but was indeed very much alive?

Twenty-five year old Chastity searches through her mother’s belongings in hopes of finding any shred of evidence that leads to her father. A man, she’d always felt was out there ... somewhere. Any glimmer of hope is dashed when she reads one tiny line scrawled across the back page of her mother’s notebook. One traumatic sentence is all it takes to unravel her life long desire in a matter of seconds.

Chastity uncovers the sordid truth, a truth that her mom, Kylie, tried to hide at all costs. This newfound information plunges Chastity into a new world of control, power, and hurt. With the help of her mother’s best friend a handsome attorney, Chastity sorts her way through her new found family ties and the costs that come with it.

Interview with Indie-Rock Band The Fantasy Echoes

    in Indie Music

Even though they haven't had their debut release yet, you can already tell that the indie-rock group The Fantasy Echoes is too damn fun. From the first notes of their demo "Battle Cry", you're already tapping your toes, bobbing your head, and wanting to sing along with lead singer Austin and the rockin' vocals emanating from his throat.

This week Steven Rouk talks with guitarist and song-writer Ryan to hear the stories behind the infectious tunes and to get the scoop on what the band's plans are for the future.

  • Indie Books Show #66 (Mary Barr)

    in Books

Tune in and join me as I welcome this week's guest.
Author Mary Barr joins me this week to talk about her books.  We'll discuss her novellas, novels & juvenile fiction titles.
    From her novella The Publisher:
Each day with trust and good faith we send our beloved children off to school. We assume they arrive safely, enjoy time with their friends and learn their lessons. We think we know where they are and who they’re with. But life can change in a heartbeat, so can circumstances, places and people and, as a result we never remain the same. Change is often good, sometimes bad, but always constant. The Publisher takes you into the lives of the Smelt family. Joe, Suzanne and their two children, six year old Libby and thirteen year old Connor.
It is a normal school day just like any other, until Joe – the publisher – begins reading a manuscripts. In the manuscript he learns that his children are not at school. They have been kidnapped and are being held hostage until the ransom is paid. Each detail of what he must do is precisely laid out as another page of the manuscript unfolds. Suzanne has done someone wrong and, if she can right the situation her children will go free, if not, they will die. And so, they sit and wait for the knock on the door and the next installment of the manuscript that holds within its pages their children’s fate.

Indie Books Show #58 (Rich Marcello)

    in Books

Tune in and join me as I welcome this week's guest.
Author Rich Marcello joins me this week to talk about his books.  We will focus on his recently released: The Big Wide Calm.
Paige is a rock star. The world just doesn’t know it yet. She’s got the charisma, the drive, and, of course, the mega-musical skills. All she needs is to make her debut album, one that will change the world, inspire revolutions—and make her galactically famous along the way.
When John Bustin, a former semi-famous singer/songwriter offers to record Paige’s album for free, it feels like destiny, like the next step on her way to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Guitar in hand, Paige sets off to John’s recording compound, ready to unfold her future.
But the ever-elusive John, with his mysterious history, and Paige, a big dreamer but naïve about her footing in life, clash as much as they coalesce. Before they can change the world through Paige’s music, the improbable duo must learn to work together.
A coming of age story and retrospective, The Big Wide Calm focuses on human nature and the complexities of love through the eyes of young and old on the journey of creating the perfect album.

Indie Books Show #65 (Gary Reilly)

    in Books

Tune in and join me as I welcome this week's guests.
This week, I'll be doing my first posthumous interview.  No, I won't be speaking to the author from the other side (that's another blogtalk radio category).  I will be interviewing two gentlemen who knew Gary Reilly very well in life and were given the approval to seek publication for his books after his death.
When he was alive, Gary Reilly devoted his life to perfecting his writing - not seeking agent or publishers. He posthumously gave his books into the hands of Mike Keefe, a retired political cartoonist and Pulitzer Prize winner, and Mark Stevens, a former journalist and acclaimed author in Colorado, for publishing.
Of the first five titles – “The Asphalt Warrior,” “Ticket to Hollywood,” “The Heart of Darkness Club,” “Home for the Holidays” and “Doctor Lovebeads” – two hit No. 1 on the Denver area bestsellers list and two have been nominated for the Colorado Book Award.
Tune in Friday at11AM EST or listen to the archive.
