Lifes Issues with Lloyd Rosen and his guest Phila Vocia & Aileen McCabe-Maucher.
Phila Vocia spent the school age years of my life preparing according to what we could afford, in terms of education and training, to work. And believe you me, I have been working, working, working. I have a website www.sensiblework.com . Only to find out that there are economic forces that the common man or woman can't fight. Keep the bills low and enjoy the status of life that you are in. If you can easily move up the ladder do it, but don't put yourself in too much debt. It's best to get an affordable roof over your head before you're too old and tired to accomplish a safe, secure old age. I subcontracted 2 homes, have been a landlady, even a constuction laborer. I have done many clerical jobs in the workforce and sales jobs, and marketing and owned an auto supply store.
Aileen McCabe-Maucher is the author of the book The Inner Peace Diet which was published by Penguin Books and released in December 2008. Aileen is a licensed clinical social worker, registered nurse and registered yoga teacher who lives and works in Wilmington, Delaware. She is currently a doctoral candidate at the University of Pennsylvania and loves showing people how to relax and tune into their own deepest wisdom. When she is not teaching, counseling clients or carting her family around town in her Honda Element, Aileen is fervently working on her dissertation and/or burning dinner. Please visit Aileen’s website at theinnerpeacediet.com to receive a free The Inner Peace Diet ebooklet.
Inspiration of the Day
“There is no passion to be found playing small,
in settling for a life that is less than the one
you are capable of living.”
1918-2013, President of South Africa, Revolutionary, and
Author of Long Walk to Freedom: The Autobiography of Nelson Mandela
So Now What?
I’m guessing that the people you admire through out history played big. That’s why you treasure them. They are revered because they were passionate about what they did and they didn’t cover up their light.
The problem with passion and playing big is it puts the spotlight on you. Family, friends and complete strangers will see what you’re doing. They will have an opinion about it and it may not be a good opinion. A lot of people are afraid of getting criticized and having people disapprove of them so they hide and play small.
At first somebody playing big may be laughed at and ridiculed by those still playing small because you’re breaking the un-written rule that we all should play it safe and not rock the boat. It’s so unusual to see someone shun smallness, to let themselves shine, and so willing to deal with the ridicule that they grab our attention and admiration.
It’s not easy playing big that’s why they deserve our honor and respect. That’s why they rise to the top. And because they were that passionate about their life and purpose they had no choice but to shine

This is a black arts and culture site. We will be exploring the African Diaspora via the writing, performance, both musical and theatrical (film and stage), as well as the visual arts of Africans in the Diaspora and those influenced by these aesthetic forms of expression. I am interested in the political and social ramifications of art on society, specifically movements supported by these artists and their forebearers. It is my claim that the artists are the true revolutionaries, their work honest and filled with raw unedited passion. They are our true heroes. Ashay!

Terry Bams has taken the messes of his life and turned them into a message for the masses. Terry has successfully authored his autobiography, The Mind of a Womanizer.
"...Terry shares the details of the drama, humor, heartache, and sex surrounding his countless encounters with numerous women..."
Because of his experiences, dozens of men and women have sought his advice about dating, relationships, and marriage.
It is his faith and his own personal relationship with God that has led him to his calling of helping others mend broken relationships. Terry says he will always strive to encourage others and to be a positive influence in our society.
"...While his successes have been plentiful (and the best is yet to come), Terry takes none of the credit, but gives all of the glory to God..."
Carol was fostered as a baby and adopted at 2 1/2 years of age and did not learn that she was Cherokee until 1996, when she also began her writing career. After discovering her 'roots', Carol became involved intertribal activites and was appointed the Ambassador to Israel (in the U.S.) for the Central Band of Cherokee.
Some of her 'lifetime achievements' are those of mother of six children, writer/author of Skeletons in the Closet, an autobiography, with a BA in Human Services. Carol, a veteran of the U.S. Army (Viet Nam Era and from 1978-80), is also a member of the Disabled American Veterans Association, and National Native American Veterans Association.
Ms. Shoemaker is a dual citizen of the United States and Israel. A highlight of her trip to Israel was when asked to deliver a message to Hillary Clinton in Jerusalem, from the children of K'far Adumim. (1994). She is an enrolled member of the Tsalagiyi Nvdagi (Texas Cherokees) as well as member of the Austin Film Society and National Academy of Native American Arts Society NANAAS).
As I read my 3rd installment from my book, releasing a autobiography is not what you see in the movies ! There is no family and friends calling you up and calling you a Mother ....... and threatning to sue you ! There is no reporters hounding family and friends trying to get a quote or offering publishing deals about you or your book ! And that is the best thing about me releasing this book, is that silence is golden, and I believe with out a doubt that this book will give someone hope, faith and possible redemption. This book is about my life between the years of 1998 and 2011 and all though people may not say anything pubicly about me, I see that as the highest respect one can give from a close friend or family member ! Please Enjoy !
Tonight on The Gist of Freedom www.BlackHistoryUniversity.com, Meet Jamel Robinson! After spending 21 years in the foster care system without being adopted, he beat the odds and is now a successful child welfare reform advocate.
This show is dedicated to Amanda Berry Smith 1837-1915
devoted her life to the ministry of the African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church. Her most noted achievement is the opening of the first orphanage for black children in Illinois.
In 1899, the orphanage opened its doors to homeless African American girls. The 12-room brick house that served as the orphanage was the first of its kind in Illinois.
The community at large was receptive to Smith’s evangelical message and supported the presence of the orphanage. By 1910, the building housed 33 children, up from 12 in 1900
In Harvey, Illinois, a suburb founded by temperance groups south of Chicago, Smith took up the duties of the national representative for the WCTU, and wrote her life’s story. An Autobiography: The Story of the Lord’s Dealings with Mrs. Amanda Smith, the Colored Evangelist was published in 1893. Through book sales, donations, and lecturing fees, she began to raise money for a new cause: an orphanage for black children. She founded and distributed a small newspaper, The Helper, in order to generate publicity and income for the orphanage and other worthy charities
