It ain't how you start but how you finish. These are words that everyone should remember to live by but they are also the words that we seem to easily forget until someone either reminds us to keep pushing on or until we witness someone that has traveled a road longer and harder than we have. That's where our guest for this show Queen of Queen's Poetic Expression's "The Complexities of Life" comes in.
Check out some of her experiences.
Growing up witnessing the abusive relationship between her parents.
Living a violent life and becoming a gang banger by joining the local Crips gang in her neighborhood as a teenager.
Becoming involved in an abusive relationship herself following in the footsteps of her parents.
Surviving several suicide attempts.
Becoming a teenage mom through all of this and being faced with raising several children as a single mom.
Wanna know how it all turns out? How would you think it would? No way she could win or more or less even be in the game after all this right?
Queen is currently working on an autobiography but has already finished 2 self published books of poetry and on top of that she spits that spoken word very well? Wanna hear some of it? Check out her YouTube channel Queens Poetic Expressions and see what it's hittin' for. I think you'll be impressed and ready to hear more about what has inspired her to do what she does.
You'll notice that she's still here and still going strong because It Ain't How You Start, It's.........
“Terrible” Tim Witherspoon was born and raised on the streets of South Philadelphia, and he came into the world in December 1957. Times were hard back then, and especially for the Witherspoon’s who lived between the Italians and the Irish, and the kids never went to school on St. Patrick’s day. Tim’s is a story about a boy who came up the hard way, but he never really knew what talent he had until the great Muhammad Ali picked him out to spar with him when he made his comeback in the late seventies. Within four years of becoming a professional boxer Tim was going toe-to-toe with Larry Holmes for the WBC heavyweight championship of the world, but the fight was promoted by Don King and, despite so many people saying he won that night; he knew the only way he was going to lift that belt was if he KO’d the champ. Somehow Larry stayed on his feet, and the rest as they say is history. Tim held two different versions of the World Heavyweight Championship, the WBC and the WBA Titles in the 1980’s. WitherspoonBelt He now resides in Philadelphia and spends time in the UK raising money for charity and visiting his family, as well as commentating and offering personal boxing training and guidance. This year he is writing his explosive autobiography with Ryan Danes, and training his son Tim Witherspoon Jr.
Tim Witherspoon (born December 27, 1957) is a retired American boxer who for two brief periods in the mid-1980s held the WBC then WBA World Heavyweight Championship titles.
Jimmy was first to enter the sports-entertainment world, debuting in 1964 after training with fellow Hall of Famer Verne Gagne. Johnny followed soon after in 1967, and together they won several regional tag team championships. The Valiants entered WWE in the early 1970s, and at times they seemed unbeatable. Together, the pair captured the World Tag Team Championship in 1974 and held them for just over a year. Later, a third brother, "Gentleman" Jerry, joined them, teaming with Johnny to once again win the World Tag Team Championship in 1979. The Valiants were just one of the dozen tag teams that fellow 1996 Hall of Fame inductee Captain Lou Albano guided to the World Tag Team Championship in his career.
Jimmy is also an accomplished author of his own Autobiography entitled, "WOO....MERCY DADDY! Welcome to my world the Jimmy Valiant story. We talk about his storied career in wrestling and what he is up to today

Lifes Issues with Lloyd Rosen and his guest Phila Vocia & Aileen McCabe-Maucher.
Phila Vocia spent the school age years of my life preparing according to what we could afford, in terms of education and training, to work. And believe you me, I have been working, working, working. I have a website www.sensiblework.com . Only to find out that there are economic forces that the common man or woman can't fight. Keep the bills low and enjoy the status of life that you are in. If you can easily move up the ladder do it, but don't put yourself in too much debt. It's best to get an affordable roof over your head before you're too old and tired to accomplish a safe, secure old age. I subcontracted 2 homes, have been a landlady, even a constuction laborer. I have done many clerical jobs in the workforce and sales jobs, and marketing and owned an auto supply store.
Aileen McCabe-Maucher is the author of the book The Inner Peace Diet which was published by Penguin Books and released in December 2008. Aileen is a licensed clinical social worker, registered nurse and registered yoga teacher who lives and works in Wilmington, Delaware. She is currently a doctoral candidate at the University of Pennsylvania and loves showing people how to relax and tune into their own deepest wisdom. When she is not teaching, counseling clients or carting her family around town in her Honda Element, Aileen is fervently working on her dissertation and/or burning dinner. We are joined by Michael Thal retired from his teaching job when he was 51 years old due to a severe hearing loss. Rather than give up on life, he pursued a new career as a writer. Since 2001 he’s penned 3 published novels with a new one coming out this fall. He’s also written over 80 published articles for print magazines like Highlights for Children, San Diego Family Magazine, and Writer's Digest, to name a few.
Michael was inspired to write Goodbye Tchaikovsky due to a severe hearing loss at the age of 44. He left his job as a tenured sixth grade teacher seven years later because he couldn’t understand his students. Michael wrote Goodbye Tchaikovsky wondering what it would have been like if his hearing dropped out as a teen.
Goodbye Tchaikovsky is not just a novel about main character, David Rothman’s experience of transitioning between a hearing and deaf world. It is an emotional autobiography of hearing loss. Deafness is an unseen disability. We know a man is blind by the cane he uses to guide his walk. Her wheelchair easily identifies a disabled woman with Cerebral Palsy. Deaf people have to continuously remind others to talk slow so deaf people have a chance to understand their speech. Deaf are alone in crowds. They are isolated at parties. David’s story brings this conundrum alive to its readers.
Approximately (36 million) American adults report some degree of hearing loss. About 2-3 out of every 1,000 children born in the U S are born deaf or hard-of-hearing. The National Institute on Health estimates that approximately 15 percent (26 million) of Americans between the ages of 20 and 69 have high frequency hearing loss due to exposure to loud sounds or noise at work or in leisure activities. There are 4,000 new cases of sudden deafness occur each year in the United States. Yet deafness is the only disabilty where people get mad at the deaf
Archbishop Carl Bean is the founding prelate of the Unity Fellowship Church Movement, a liberal protestant denomination that has been particularly welcoming of LGBTQ African Americans. In 1982, the Archbishop became an activist working on behalf of people with AIDS and has done great works in this area! His autobiography, "I Was Born This Way" came out in 2010.
Inspiration of the Day
“There is no passion to be found playing small,
in settling for a life that is less than the one
you are capable of living.”
1918-2013, President of South Africa, Revolutionary, and
Author of Long Walk to Freedom: The Autobiography of Nelson Mandela
So Now What?
I’m guessing that the people you admire through out history played big. That’s why you treasure them. They are revered because they were passionate about what they did and they didn’t cover up their light.
The problem with passion and playing big is it puts the spotlight on you. Family, friends and complete strangers will see what you’re doing. They will have an opinion about it and it may not be a good opinion. A lot of people are afraid of getting criticized and having people disapprove of them so they hide and play small.
At first somebody playing big may be laughed at and ridiculed by those still playing small because you’re breaking the un-written rule that we all should play it safe and not rock the boat. It’s so unusual to see someone shun smallness, to let themselves shine, and so willing to deal with the ridicule that they grab our attention and admiration.
It’s not easy playing big that’s why they deserve our honor and respect. That’s why they rise to the top. And because they were that passionate about their life and purpose they had no choice but to shine
