Books of Excellence with Author Bonnie Kaye

    in Books

Tonight Bonnie Kaye welcomes Lorraine Pestell, author of the six part serialized book "A Life Singular." Lorraine was born in London and has had a successful career as an Information Technology professional in the UK, US, Europe, Singapore, and more recently Australia.  She currently resides in Melbourne, Victoria.

Although working full-time, Lorraine is a passionate volunteer for several organizations, including serving on the Boards of non-profit organizations, being a mentor for The Smith Family's iTrack program and providing project management assistance to The School Volunteer Program.  She finds that volunteering time and energy to those less fortunate is an effective antidote to life-long depression and the symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.

The idea for "A Life Singular" originated when Lorraine was 14 years old, and the story has continued to develop since then.  However, three years ago, a new element of the plot triggered a sudden urge to complete the novel, and since then the story has evolved into six separate parts. The book tells the story of a successful celebrity writing his autobiography after the tragic loss of his wife.

In essence a love story, the central themes of the "A Life Singular"  serial are triumph over mental illness, the choices we make between right and wrong, the relentless passage of time and how each affects the other.  Some of life's lessons are harder to learn, and some amazing opportunities easier to take.  The trick is always to understand the consequences of our choices, before it's too late...

This is a program for independent authors who are part of the Books of Excellence Coop. Other independent authors are welcomed as time allows.

Candid Assessment of U.S. Response to the Ebola Crisis at Home and Abroad

    in Health

The Ebola virus is proving to be the deadliest microbe and most complex pathogen in recent history, specifically because Ebola Virus Disease(EVD) spreads within the context of social norms, such as embracing, or touching while caring for an infected carrier or contaminated environment. The alarmist nature of the  American tabloids and cable news is causing anxiety and spreading fear and misinformation about the EVD. Health-care costs and illness from the effects of the disease contribute relatively little to its economic impact, according to a World Bank report. TRAILBLAZING JOURNALIST & AUTHOR GAIL SHEEHY

    in Entertainment

The Halli Casser-Jayne Show, Talk Radio for Fine Minds brings you a conversation with trailblazing journalist Gail Sheehy, the New York Times bestselling author of PASSSAGES who is out with her new autobiography DARING: MY PASSAGES.

Gail Sheehy’s 1976 book PASSAGES had an exciting idea at its core: adulthood is dotted with predictable turning points. Now, after more than 45 years interviewing women and men about their lives, the journalist and best-selling author has turned the lens on herself. Her new memoir, DARING: MY PASSAGES reflects on her career as a trailblazing female journalist in the ’60s, a mother determined to balance work and family, and a caregiver to an ailing husband. Reflecting on desire, ambition, and wanting it all - career, love, children, friends, social significance - and coming to terms with waiting until midlife to achieve it all, Sheehy’s memoir is filled with candor and humor and describes her early failures; the pain of betrayal in a first marriage; her struggles as a single mother; the flings of an ardent, liberated young woman; the vertigo of becoming an internationally bestselling author; her adoption of a second daughter from a refugee camp; the emotional account of her tempestuous relationship with her mentor, her friend, her lover, her husband the founder of New York Magazine Clay Felker, and her ongoing passion for life, work and love. DARING: MY PASSAGES is a testament to guts, resilience, and smarts, and offers a bold perspective on all of life's passages and the daring that’s gotten Gail Sheehy through it all.
