IndieReview Behind The Scenes with Author William Turner (Maverick Moments)

    in Entertainment

~~Hello Everyone! My name is Michelle Cornwell Jordan, I am your host!

~~The definition of Maverick is an unorthodox or independent-minded person.

Also called a TrailBlazer! I have the pleasure of chatting with one of these "Thinking Outside The Box Artists"  tonight  Author William Turner.

William Turner  spent his formative years in New England. He was educated in the private, parochial school system, and is presently retired from State service (State of California), as a supervisor. He has one son (Ontonio), and three grandchildren. His grandson is serving in the United States Air Force. His daughter-in-law, Bridgette, is a practicing pediatrician. William had aspired–so long ago–to be a priest, but felt at the time he had not been exposed enough to life to walk away and close the monastery door. His subsequent exposure to life sullied him beyond any aspiration to the priesthood. William now lives in Lancaster, California, spending much of his time doing penance, reflecting on his countless errors in judgment. William’s penchant for writing mysteries stems from his exposure to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s stories and those of Agatha Christie. His mentor was Sister Agnes Bernard–his high school English teacher.

Drawing Caricatures as Work, How Fun is That?

    in Work

For this episode of Conversations in the Zone, I have the privilege to chat with Susan Moreno, a contemporary abstract artist based in Atlanta, GA. Susan attended The Art Institute of Chicago and The Atlanta College of Art where she graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Art in 1987. Susan is an award-winning artist whose work has appeared in numerous juried shows including the Decatur Fine Arts Exhibition at The Dalton Gallery at Agnes Scott College. Her collectors include, The Bank of Atlanta, Decatur Arts Alliance, as well as, private collectors in Atlanta and Arizona. Susan grew up in Florida and was around water for much of her formative years. These early memories of water and movement are the foundation for her present work, as she pours paint on canvas and wood. The idea of unrestricted movement and liquidity are her primary concerns. She uses sand and charcoal to add texture and associations of earthiness to her images.

With over 25 years of experience Susan has entertained professionally in the Atlanta area, as well as out of state with caricatures. Over the years Susan has drawn countless caricatures for corporate events such as conventions, trade-shows, employee and customer appreciation, wedding receptions and much more.

Her client list includes Atlanta Magazine, PYA Monarch, Greystone Power, Georgia Power, AT & T, Delta, Coke, Georgia Power, just to name a few.  For more information about Susan and the work she loves, visit www.susanmoreno.com, caricaturesbysusan.com or digitalcaricaturesatlanta.com.

Deepertruth: John Carpenter's Journey With Mary Series, Going To Japan

    in Religion

The extraordinary events began on June 12, 1973, when Sr. Agnes saw brilliant mysterious rays emanate suddenly from the tabernacle. The same thing happened on each of the two days that followed.

On June 28, 1973, a cross-shaped wound appeared on the inside left hand of Sr. Agnes. It bled profusely and caused her much pain. On July 6, Sr. Agnes heard a voice coming from the statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the chapel where she was praying. The statue was carved from a single block of wood from a Katsura tree and is three feet tall. On the same day, a few of the sisters noticed drops of blood flowing from the statue's right hand. On four occasions, this act of blood flow repeated itself. The wound in the statue's hand remained until September 29, when it disappeared. On September 29, the day the wound on the statue disappeared, the sisters noticed the statue had now begun to "sweat", especially on the forehead and neck. On August 3, Sr. Agnes received a second message. On October 13, she received a final third message.

Empowering Your Mind ~ Author Anjulle Floyd "When The Drum Major Died"

    in Entrepreneur

"When The Drum Major Died" by Anjulle Floyd

    December 1967.
Martin Luther King, Jr. has begun laying out plans for his Poor People’s Campaign. Florina Austin, newly married, spies a woman sitting on the steps leading up to the verandah where Florina and her husband will live. The woman’s uncanny knowledge of the space that Florina will inhabit leaves her suspicious.
The following Sunday after church, Florina witnesses the woman, she has come to know as Agnes, caress Redmond’s cheek. The look in Redmond’s eyes betrays longing. Florina and Agnes are neighbors. Their husbands, Negro doctors in Poinsettia, NC, hold prominent positions in the social and political life of their community. When Agnes flees to Memphis and joins the Sanitation Workers Protests, all are aghast, none more than Florina. As they move towards the fateful day Dr. Martin Luther King is killed, Florina learns that marriage exposes the vulnerabilities of all who pledge their trough and body. It casts an even greater shadow upon the ones who vow love unto death, and do not deliver what they have promised. When the Drum Major Died shows what happens when we resist change in favor of worn out tradition, but also what can and does occur when we open our hearts and embrace the words, “ … be first in love … be first in generosity … He who is greatest among you shall be your servant. …”

A.L. Ward - Inner Mind Revisted

    in Motivation

A.L. Ward, author of "The Inner Mind", "The Inner Mind Revisited: Researching the Soul", "Heaven, The Road Back Home", "Phenomenal Expressions of Hypnotism" and "You Will Reap What You Sow", is a highly acclaimed experienced Hypnotist, Healer and Instructor with a 56-year track record.  His contribution to a massive research project proved that hypnosis corrected 'non-medically responsive' health problems and that a universally consistent pattern of negative emotions caused the physical deficiencies.

A former Police Officer, College Professor and Navy Veteran, A.L notes that a police investigation led him to several years of study with a master hypnotist, and he was one of the first to use this science in police service. He has lectured on hypnosis, regression therapy, and other mind dynamics at schools, colleges, service clubs and private organizations, and has appeared several times on television. In 1996 the National Guild of Hypnotists honored him with the Ormond McGill award for presenter of the year. The International Hypnosis Federation presented him with an Award of Excellence and a Lifetime Achievement Award.

Mr. Ward married Agnes McCoy in Redlands, California in 1940. They had 2 children and lived a full life until her death in 2008, after 69 years of marriage.

AL was honored with The Order of Braid,  in 2011, international honor society for hypnotism named after the 19th century Scottish surgeon who first devised the word “hypnotism.” Persons are inducted into the Order of Braid in recognition of a lifetime of service to professional hypnotism.
