When you think of a Vocalise, you think of one who is skilled above and beyond the average singer. Everything from their tone, to pitch, to diction, to range far exceeds the normal capabilities of a person who uses their voice as their main instrument.
From the simple cafe on the corner to the massive, sold-out arenas and stadiums, Toni "Tj" Scruggs has been the most sought out Vocalise of our day. With a 6+ octave range, a jazz scat that is Ella worthy, and a richness to her tone reminscent of days gone by when a singer actually sang, Tj has stood in, with, behind and for notables such as Chaka Khan, Raheem DeVaughn, Whitney Houston. She has been in the hallowed trios found on the Grammys, Bet Honors, and American Idol. She has had her face on the small screen in The Parenthood, and the Jumbotron supporting Mary J Blige. Her impromptu solo's have been some of the most watched on Youtube of all supporting vocalists, most notably her rendition of "Summertime" in the set with Lalah Hathaway in which you hear every high and low of her beautiful instrument in all of it's Glory. And most recently, you have been blessed by her soaring vocals on this season of "Dancing With The Stars"
Join me as I sit and talk with Tj about the industry for the support vocalist. In the wake of "20 Feet from Stardom", the Oscar winning, highly acclaimed docudrama featuring the true pioneers of this craft, we will talk about how it is in the industry now versus then, what to expect when you are on the road, her future career as a solo artist, writing ventures and more!
Call in! She is also one of the most noteworthy vocal technicians in the game and we will have the lines open for questions!
We will be talking sports and having fun doing it. Expected to be joined by one of the stars of BET's "The Game" Barry Floyd, who will discuss the upcoming season of the show. Also, Super Bowl 48 champs Seattle Seahawks DE Greg Scruggs will join us to discuss winning the Super Bowl and more. Tampa Bay Buccaneers LB Jonathan Casillas who will discuss his off season, rehab, upcoming free agency and more. Listen @ blogtalkradio.com/pgant or call 646-727-3070

Afi Soul is the critically acclaimed soul and r&b music artist whose self-distributed album, Lovely, landed the no. 10 spot on the SoulTracks Top 10 CDs list, putting her in a class with Erykah Badu, Angela Johnson and Jill Scott. Many consider her supportive anthem for the ‘brothas’ — “Baby, Its Cold Outside” — Afi’s signature tune. The music video for that single stayed in rotation on BETJ and VH1 Soul for months, and was featured on VH1Soul.com.
Touring with artists such as Lil Mo and Raheem Devaughn, renewed interest in Afi’s debut prompted a 2010 re-release led by “Sorry (Gotta Go)”, a no nonsense hit that asserts a woman’s independence. The music video for this single quickly made its way across the internet in 2011.
After Lovely, Afi’s life suddenly took an unexpected turn. At the height of her career, she began watching pieces of her life fall apart with the passing of her father during her fourth pregnancy. Shortly after, Afi experienced heartbreak and a financial downfall that left her homeless.
Shocking friends and family, Afi parted ways with the music industry from 2011 to late 2013 to rediscover herself and rebuild a life for her children.
Now back in the studio, Afi returns a more empowered woman, mother and soulstress. With fans anticipating new music, she releases her latest single, “I’m Gone Shine” off her forthcoming album. With this most recent music video, viewers witnesses Afi reclaim her strength and independence. Afi attributes her healing to her belief in God, family and talent. “I feel like a Phoenix,” said Afi. “…I just keep living.”

A lot of things going on as usual, every week, during the week - Are the L.A. Clippers sold to the Microsoft guy? For 2 BILLION? Do you know that raised the value of every NBA team in the league? All the teams that made the playoffs have the chance of being worth 2BILLION at least and the two teams that make the playoffs EVEN MORE. Mya Angelou has passed away, people are still talking about the Santa Barbara shooting. That theory out about O.J. Simpson - they say it's a FRESH new theory behind of 18 years of reseach, but Valcine Young and myself threw that hat in the ringer BACK THEN.

This week, we are going to talk about Slavery. Subject: The Proliferation of SLAVES suggested by Curtis B Scruggs. Slavery is one of the U.S.'s stains in history. All the American Black man has gone through. Are we still slaves to a certain degree?
And here's a good question... or questions. Are there people who wish slaves still exist? Are there people who don't believe slaves ever were? The slave traffic lessen the pain of Black slavery, or eliminate that it happened?
The people here on the JKN want to wish you all a HAPPY MOTHERS DAY -
