No Storm Lasts Forever: Transforming Suffering Into Insight with author Dr. Terry A. Gordon
As a cardiologist, Dr. Terry Gordon dealt with life-and-death circumstances on a daily basis. He learned that life is precious and tenuous; it can change in an instant. Such a dramatic shift occurred when his son, Tyler, was involved in a car accident, sustaining a severe spinal-cord injury that left him paralyzed. Leading his family through the experience, Terry's journey resulted in a spiritual awakening to a clearer understanding of life and the truths it has to offer. Terry has learned that our experiences become calamities only if we make the conscious decision to make tragedies out of them. Rather than lamenting the so-called adversities, we can choose to be grateful for them, embracing them as gifts from the Divine. These gifts provide fertile soil for growth and enlightenment, offering us the opportunity to transform turmoil, disappointment, and suffering into understanding, insight, and resolve . . . and such gifts are presented to you in No Storm Lasts Forever.
One of Terry's missions in life is saving the lives of our most precious resource, our children. After the tragic death of Josh Miller, a 15-year old football player at Barberton High School, Dr. Gordon, as then president of the Summit County Ohio American Heart Association helped to raise the funds to place automated external defibrillators (AEDs) in every junior and high school. His community became the first county of its size in the nation to do so. For his efforts, the American Heart Association named him the National Physician of the Year 2002

We didn't quite get to AED's on our recent blog radio segment, but they will be covered in detail on this show. Our guest host will be the very popular Dr. Jerry Reves, former Dean of the Medical School at the Medical University of South Carolina. Dr. Reves will go over the use of AED's and the very important after-care of the patient before help arrives.

I have started to listen to the 8 hour video from the 2014 Epilepsy Pipeline Conference Family Day. I am about 3 hours into it and have taken away some very interesting information from it. I am looking forward to sharing more about this with you. Did you know that seizure meds while labeled AEDs are really ASDs? Seizure meds are that. Medications are tested for those with seizures not necessarily for Epilepsy. There is more. Check it out.
Want to listen to the conference yourself? Here is the link.
The intention of this forum is to share information. For as long as epilepsy has been around it is amazing how little is known, understood and shared. I have found the best places for information is through the Epilepsy Foundation's chat rooms, Epilepsy Facebook pages and local support groups. It is my hopes that this will become another place to support those who have or lend support to those with epilepsy.
I am a newbie to this scene with my teenage daughter in her first year with epilepsy. I am shocked at how difficult it has been to navigate the medical and educational systems. Systems that should be supportive to this condition.
So let's talk about epilepsy and share information that can help us all move forward.
Thank you to all who post information in forums. Your wisdom and sharing has greatly benefited our family in coming to better understand epilepsy and all that goes with it.
with love and appreciation,

The show will be live at 9pm on June 24th.
Art and Donald plan on discussing politics and how firefighters can get involved. Art plans to include some "trade secrets" on how to approach your representatives and the ins and outs of what to say and how to say it!
Donald has a long history of support for firefighters and has been hailed as a well recognized supporter of fire departments and initiatives in his State.
Donald L. Moffitt
Illinois State Representative 74th District
Making Our Communities a Safer Place to Live and Work
Working to make our communities a safer place to live and work, Moffitt has made public safety a top priority. Thanks to the efforts of Representative Moffitt, the 94th District (his former legislative district) was one of the first districts in the State of Illinois to equip every fire department with life-saving technology such as thermal imaging cameras. In addition, many area public safety officials were able to trade outdated equipment for the latest advanced live-saving equipment.
The American Red Cross recognized Moffitt for his commitment to the health and safety of his constituents after he obtained automated external defibrillators (AEDs) for area police departments. As co-chairman of the House Fire Protection Task Force, a bipartisan committee working to ensure that fire departments have the funding to purchase needed equipment and gear, Representative Moffitt helped to establish a No-interest Revolving Fire Truck Loan available to all Illinois Fire Prevention Districts. Hailed by several area fire departments for his efforts, he was named Honorary Firefighter by Clover Township, Honorary Chief of Altona Fire Protection District and Honorary Paramedic by Galesburg Hospitals Ambulance Service.

Monitoring, Neurology Residency Director, Barrow Neurological Institute on New AEDS for Epilepsy. This is a live

Increasing concerns about depression, suicidality, and other mood problems have been seen in people with epilepsy for many years. While recent information from the U.S. FDA suggests antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) as a possble cause, the links between the brain, epilepsy, AEDs and other treatments are complex and not well understood.
Patricia Shafer, Resource Specialist on epilepsy.com will interview Dr. Andres Kanner, a well-known epileptologist and neuropsychiatrist about this topic.
