Adrien Broner vs Shawn Porter Preview

    in Sports

Without question Adrien Broner vs Shawn Porter, on paper, is one of the more even match ups Premier Boxing Champions has delivered. Even if it's not good, we're basically being saturated with televised boxing cards. Enough that sub-par match ups can be ignored? No, but close. Apart from the #PBConNBC show, Roc Nation Sports makes its BET network debut with Andre Ward vs Paul Smith, on FoxSports, David Lemieux faces Hassan N'Dam, and on a rare Sunday show, CBS airs Antonio DeMarco vs Rances Barthelemy. That's without even going into the recapping we need to do... Erislandy Lara vs Delvin Rodriguez from Spike, Nicholas Walters vs Miguel Harriaga on HBO, Deontay Wilder barely surviving Eric Molina on Showtime. There's a ton. As usual, it's James Foley of Bad Left Hook and Patrick Connor of The Fight City bringing it all. Thanks for tuning in!

    Omar Figueroa-Antonio DeMarco Review

    in Sports

Omar Figueroa and Antonio DeMarco closed out the PBC on NBC year with a bang, delivering a closely fought action fight in front of enthusiastic fans at the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas.

Figueroa came out semi-aggressive but tried being more selective in spots. Figueroa looked huge, but DeMarco was taking his shots very well in the first few rounds. However, it was Figueroa’s size that was helping him keep DeMarco right where he wanted him, with his back against the ropes.

When Figueroa was being smart, he was also leaving himself open, when he was aggressive, and a bit sloppy is when he seemed to have the most success.

Switching style to southpaw for a moment and then quickly back to orthodox, Figueroa was able to keep the fight exactly where he wanted it – in the phone booth. DeMarco was able to get some distance between him and Omar for a bit, but he never did anything with that time. DeMarco refused to move and allowed himself to get pinned right back against the ropes.

Viktor Postol vs Lucas Matthysse, Adrien Broner vs Khabib Allakhverdiev Recaps

    in Sports

So. You lost your mortgage and 1/7 of your car betting that Viktor Postol would kneel before the awesome power of Lucas Matthysse. Don't blame us, man! We just talk here.

If you missed it, Postol actually broke Matthysse down over 10 rounds on HBO before taking him out with a right hand. Well, it also seems that Matthysse took the count after being knocked down rather than get up and face more punishment, but the result was surprising. Where do Postol and Matthysse go from here?

In the TV opener, Antonio Orozco won a fishy decision over Humberto Soto despite losing a point and appearing to lose the fight itself, in the eyes of many. Looks like Soto is still viable. How far will Orozco go?

On Showtime, Adrien Broner punished Khabib Allakhverdiev for 11 rounds before the latter was saved by the referee in the final round. Has Broner matured at all?

Opening up that broadcast, Edner Cherry gave Jose Pedraza a far tougher fight than two cards would indicate. possibly doing enough to earn a win. But... #Boxing.

James Foley of Bad Left Hook and The Fight City's Patrick Connor will have things to say about all of these fights. Yay.

This week's schedule is mostly devoid of big names, though there are a few televised cards that might be deceptively fun. After that, action picks up quickly and should be consistent for a while. In the meantime, check out TheFightCity.com for "Thrilla Week" - a full week dedicated to celebrating the anniversary of The Thrilla in Manila, and other great heavyweight fights.

    Thanks for tuning in!

Lucas Matthysse vs Viktor Postol, Adrien Broner vs Khabib Allakhverdiev Previews

    in Sports

Hopefully the weak beginning of 2015 is finally over, now that we're nine months into the year. Yeah, it took a while, but now at least there seems to be solid blocks of decent boxing on.

There was that heavyweight clash on NBC between Deontay Wilder and Johann Duhaupas, and the fight between Juan Francisco Estrada and Hernan "Tyson" Marquez was fun, but this weekend looks more promising.

On HBO and live from the seemingly lucky StubHub Center in Carson, Calif., Mucas Matthysse and Viktor Postol square off in what could be a trickily good fight, while Antonio Orozco vs Humberto Soto opens up the telecast. Unfortunately, the Showtime broadcast on Saturday night will go head-to-head with HBO, featuring Adrien Broner vs Khabib Allakhverdiev. The co-featur, Jose Pedraza vs Edner Cherry, isn't much to write home about, unfortunately.

As always, hosting the show are James Foley of Bad Left Hook and The Fight City's Patrick Connor. We're sorry.
