FREEDOM’S GATE: Is Black History Month relevant 2015?

    in Current Events

WASHINGTON, February 11, 2015 — "Negro History Week" made its American debut almost 90 years ago, in 1926, as the second week in February. Black historian Carter G. Woodson created it with the clear purpose of highlighting the achievement and accomplishment of black Americans. At the same time stressed that the holiday should be eliminated when “black history became fundamental to American history.”

Nearly a century later we need to ask: Is Black History Month still relevant?

Joining us in the conversation on Freedom’s Gate will be guests Lonnie Poindexter, national civil rights leader and celebrated host of the Freedom’s Journal Radio show; William T. Green, President of the Ohio Chapter of the Frederick Douglass Foundation and Chairman of the Ohio Dr. Martin Luther King Commission; and Marc T. Little, accomplished California lawyer, entrepreneur, and business leader who heads the public-private coalition Inglewood Partners for Progress.

Special Episode: Celebrating Black History Month 2015

    in Lifestyle

This special episode is in Celebrating Black History Month.  We will be recognizing the unsung heroes as the month of February provides special attention on the lives of those of African descent.  It is one thing to remember the ones who we all know like Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr, Mrs. Rosa Parks, Malcolm X, Ms. Harriett Tubman, Mr. Frederick Douglass, and many others.  However, we would also like to shine light on some individuals who have made great accomplishments and sacrifices in their lives and in turn has impacted the lives of others.

There are many before us who have been trailblazers, such as Dr. Rebecca Lee Crumpler, the first African-American female to receive her medical degree in the USA,Mr. Hiram Revels, the first African-American to become a US Congressmen, Dr. Guion Stewart “Guy” Bluford, Jr., the first African-American astronaut to actually travel in space, Mr. Thurgood Marshall, the first African-American to become a US Supreme Court Justice, and Madam CJ Walker, the first American woman to become a millionaire.  Let us not forget a recent accomplishment in having the first African-American president of the USA, Mr. Barack Obama.

Notice that we are sharing the stories of just a few African-Americans who were the first to achieve some major accomplishments.  Now the question is what will you be the first at?  We have no excuse as the ceiling for Arican-Americans to reach their biggest goals and dreams has been BROKEN.
