What does art mean to our nation? What are the implications of national monuments? Join us as art historian Bruce Cole, Senior Fellow at the Ethics and Public Policy Center in Washington D.C., talks about art and our national heritage.
From 2001 to 2009, Cole served as the Chairman of the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH). Appointed by President George W. Bush and unanimously confirmed by the Senate in 2001 and again in 2005, Cole was the longest serving Chairman of the NEH. Under Cole's leadership, the NEH launched key initiatives, including We the People, a program designed to encourage the teaching study and understanding of American history and culture, and the Picturing America project, which uses great American art to teach our nation's history and culture in 80,000 schools and public libraries nationwide. He also created the NEH's Digital Humanities Initiative and Office, which made the Endowment a national leader in this new frontier of humanities access and knowledge. Under his tenure partnerships were developed with several foreign countries, including Mexico and China.
Born in Ohio, Cole attended Case Western Reserve University and earned a master's degree from Oberlin and a doctorate from Bryn Mawr. He is also a recipient of nine honorary doctorate degrees. Today's Guest : Bri Seeley is an entrepreneurial sensation that is passionate about sharing her story, and the stories of other amazing women. With over 20 years of experience in designing & constructing fashionable creations, including a Bachelor of Science in Apparel & Textiles from North Dakota State University & a Master Diploma in The Art of Fashion Design from the Accademia Italiana, Bri is an expert in the field of fashion! .
A note from Bri: I grew up in a small town in Minnesota where I was raised by my mother and grandmother. Grandma Seeley passed down her sewing talents to me after school & during summer vacations. By the age of 7, it was my favorite activity! As I got older, I continued to refine my talents & regularly made my own clothes when I couldn’t find what I wanted in the stores. I created the Bri Seeley label to inspire women's lives with functional, versatile, beautiful & high quality fashions. The designs are created to speak to the hearts of women and allow their true essence to show through. The Inspirational Woman Project was a small blog project born out of my fashion label. After watching my clients consistently struggle to connect with their femininity and embrace being women, I created a 30 day blog series to explore these topics. Within a few weeks, The Inspirational Woman Project quickly blossomed into a book and a movement to encourage all women to connect with their power of inspiration and then embody it through their actions, words, dress, etc. on the outside. www.BriSeeley.com
