Denise Griggs started digging into her family's history after asking her Aunt Julie the question, "Who's the white man on the wall?" She learned that the man in the picture was great-great grandmother's brother Peter Hunt, the son of an Irish slave owner and a slave named America, Hunt joined the United States Colored Troops of the Union Army after President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation.
Griggs blended oral history with historic records to write a book on her great-great-great uncle and was even able to find family in Ireland and traced her family history back to the ninth century.
Peter Hunt Mulatto, born of a slave owner and his slave named America, Ironically they were enslaved on a plantation in a town named Liberty, Mississippi.
Please join host Antoinette Harrell and co-host Dr. Okpara Nosakhere for a discussion with the author Denise Griggs.

Today on "It's My House" we shall discuss the topic of "30 Years A Slave"; no it's not a movie (yet) nor is it based on the movie 12 Years A Slave..........however when it comes to pure slavery in the form of debt slavery the net effect might not be that different.
If you have a 30 year mortgage on your home, you are a slave. If you have a reverse mortgage or any type of mortgage on your home, you are a slave. If you live in a large urban municipality there is a very good chance that you are a slave. At bare minimum you are living on a plantation.
We shall discuss strategies on how we can "buy back our freedom" and live a happy and prosperous life with any debts attached.

Denise Griffitts Interviews Holly Homer of Kids Activities Blog
Holly Homer has been a blogger since 2007. It started as a substitution for her expensive scrapbooking habit and turned into a full time job that she adores. Her early blog posts from June Cleaver Nirvana live here in the archives at Kids Activities Blog (some old favorites are beaver trapping, low-flow toilets, buying an eBay replacement teddy, and a little boy who calls her mommy). You can find her blog here.
She is the married, partially-homeschooling, work-from-home mom of three very active boys and a dog. She realized early on that wearing them out before bedtime was a self-preservation strategy.
Holly is a bit social media-obsessed. She loves teaching what she has learned both at the Business 2 Blogger blog and her YouTube channel. She speaks at conferences across the country on blogging and social media topics – Bloggy Bootcamp, Emerging Tech, Declare Conference 2013 & 2014, Blog Elevated 2013 & 2014, Project Mom 2013 & 2014, Women Get Social and is scheduled to speak at Social Media Marketing World 2015 as well as Focused 2015. She has been featured on multiple radio interviews, TV appearances and pod casts. A favorite podcast was about Kids Activities Blog’s FB page’s rapid organic growth with Michael Stelzner.

He provides an all-encompassing look at entrepreneurship, from inception to exiting, highlighting both the glory and the pain.
Startup secrets Bernd will share:

What you need to know when comparing incubators, accelerators and angel investors
Juggling immigrant entrepreneur issues or expiring student visa for a U.S.-based startup
Assembling your founders’ team based on both skill set and personality traits
How to keep your investors properly informed and keep the money coming, even when revenue is down

Have you attempted to prove oral history shared by family members and friends? Join author, book publisher and family historian Denise I. Griggs as she describes the research process she went through to find documents to prove and/or disprove the oral family history given by her grandfather, Wilbert Hunt, and his sister, Julia Hunt-Richardson. Ms. Griggs is a native of California whose parental ancestry is from Mississippi and Arkansas. She has written several books: A Mulatto Slave, the Events in the Life of Peter Hunt, 1844-1915, a comical book, Look What Shook from the Family Tree!, and a children’s beginning genealogy pamphlet, I Know Who I Am On the Family Tree.
Through her research, she has traced her mother’s family from Mississippi to County Tipperary, Ireland. Her forefathers were in the American Revolution, and the War of 1812. Another one of her maternal ancestor’s was a former slave who joined the United States Colored Troops during the Civil War in 1864, and mustered out from the 6th Heavy Artillery, serving in 1866.

Join Denise as she has a mom talk with Deesha Philyaw. After their marriage ended, Deesha and Michael D. Thomas became the poster-children for divorce amongst their circle of friends and colleagues. While they wished they could have been the poster children for successful marriage, but it didn’t work out that way…
Despite the problems that ended their marriage, Deesha and Michael managed to established a congenial co-parenting partnership that allows their two daughters to thrive. In 2008, they founded co-parenting.org to connect with other co-parents and to offer advice, support, and encouragement. In 2013, their book, Co-Parenting 101: Helping Your Kids Thrive in Two Households After Divorce, was published by New Harbinger Publications. Both their book and the site are resources for those who find themselves parenting after a divorce or break-up.
Speaking engagements, workshops, and their Blog Talk radio show “Co-parenting matters” are other ways Deesha and Michael support parents, educators, and others serving children and families.
