900 seconds warmly welcomes Nabedi Osorio of Miami and L.A.
Nabedi Osorio began playing drums at the age of 13 and received her first kit at 16. Now, at the age of 32, she is accomplished in the styles of Drum-n-Bass, Alternative Rock, Punk Rock, Hip Hop, Funk, Traditional Cuban, Bossa Nova, Samba, Soul, R&B, Reggae, Early Period music, and Pop. With influences ranging from Sheila E, No Doubt, Bjork, Rush, Interpol, James Brown, Roni Size, Nina Simone, and Bob Marley, Nabedi’s style takes on the many musical influences, while honing her award winning signature sound for which the Miami New Times has deemed her the 2007 MVP in the local music scene.
Her biggest influence comes from her Cuban Mexican roots, spawning from a musical family that dates back to her internationally touring Grandfather who played traditional Cuban Jazz for a living and thus paved the musical pathway that Nabedi was to follow.
Nabedi currently plays with Alana Chirino. (See video link below) and has contributed her drumming to some of Miami’s great bands, including: The State Of, She Said, Rachel Goodrich and the Grrls, Afrobeta, BFGF, The artist named BITCH, Generica, Mohagony, AKA, and Karma. Her tours have taken her from Germany to New York City to Los Angeles and she has showcased at venues such as CBGB’s , The Vans Warped Tour, various renaissance festivals, the Women’s Music and Cultural Festival, Michigan’s Womyns-fest, SXSW, Various Pride Festivals including Toronto Canada, and many more.

This week, Dr. Elvira will speak with Dr, Richard Lane, who is currently a professor, and the Director of the Masters of Public Health Program at Liberty University. They will discuss the state of public health education and provide suggestions for those thinkning of a career in Public Health.
Dr. Lane became part of the Liberty University community in 1989 after completing seven years of military service as a flight surgeon.
Since coming to Liberty, he has provided medical care for the students and faculty, and taught courses ranging from personal health, to microbiology, to missions medicine, and far more. His current university role is as the director of the MPH program. This opportunity comes after nearly 23 years as the campus physician and is the culmination of a life-long vision to train others to serve Christ in the field of public health. During his time at Liberty, he has engaged in a number of missions related endeavors that have taken him to over fifty nations around the world. Dr. Lane currently serves as the Lead Medical Trainer for the CrossRoads Global Team with Cru (formerly Campus Crusade for Christ); an executive board member of Freedom 4/24, a ministry against sex trafficking; and as a medical consultant for World Help, a locally based Christian relief and humanitarian organization. In the past year Dr. Lane has played a role in a university partnership with Samaritan’s Purse to train teams for disaster assistance through HEART (Humanitarian Emergency Advanced Response Training). Dr. Lane is currently working to create an online health training certificate through Liberty University Online using a bilingual Spanish/English format to provide educational opportunities for Hispanic youth wishing an affordable option for continuing education at the college level.

This week Dr. Elvira will be speaking with Dr. Marilou Costello, an independent consultant and health care expert. Dr. Costello has extensive experience in planning, managing, and evaluating primary health care programs (particular emphasis in reproductive health/family planning, TB, HIV and Malaria). She has provided technical assistance to EU (Manila) in designing and evaluating projects on health policy development for MNCHN. Strong experience in evaluating public health programs and capacity building for the Global Fund (GF), USAID, UNFPA, ASEAN, UNICEF, and Asian Development Bank. Particular strength in Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E), Operations Research, health system strengthening, capacity building, GF Country coordinating mechanism (CCM) support and facilitation of MESST.
She Provided TA to the following Global Fund countries in developing M&E system for TB: Philippines, Armenia, Nepal, Solomon Islands and Laos PDR.. Assisted Asian Development Bank in developing the Philippine country response to the problem of HIV/AIDS among OFWs and IDUs. Participated in various international evaluation missions for the ASEAN Population Program, Pearl S Buck International, UNICEF and UNFPA 4 country Programme. Served as Country Director of the Philippine office of the Population Council (NY), and managed the FRONTIERS Operations Research project in reproductive Health in the Philippines for over 10 years. Twenty years of experience as professor and Chair of the Sociology and anthropology department of Xavier University and senior associate of the Research Institute for Mindanao Culture. Conducted numerous quantitative and ethnographic researches in support of national health financing policies, reproductive health programs in the country and other regional population policies in the autonomous region of Mindanao (ARMM), Philippines.

Pamela J. Putney is a certified nurse-midwife with over 33 years of domestic and international experience in 37 countries in the design, implementation, management and evaluation of programs focusing on maternal, neonatal, child and reproductive health, gender issues, health policy, sustainable health systems, human resource development, training, strategic planning, organizational development, quality of care, HIV/AIDS, behavior change/communication, proposal and grant writing, fundraising and leadership development. She has authored a number of publications, and has also co-founded two non-profit organizations.
Jacki Zehner dedicates her resources towards the advancement of women and girls. She believes that a more gender-balanced world will mean a more just and equitable world for all. She serves in a variety of roles relating to that purpose. For the past decade she has been President of The Jacquelyn and Gregory Zehner Foundation, and more recently became CEO of Women Moving Millions, a non-profit organization dedicated to mobilizing unprecedented resources for women and girls. In addition she is a frequent media commentator, consultant, and speaker on women, success in the workplace, wealth and investing, financial current events, and high-impact philanthropy. In 1996, Jacki became the youngest woman and first female trader to be invited into the partnership of Goldman Sachs. Most of her career at Goldman was in mortgage-backed trading, followed by two years spent in the executive office working in human capital management. After leaving the Goldman Sachs in 2002, Jacki became a Founding Partner of Circle Financial Group, a private wealth management operation consisting of a small group of women committed to effectively managing their families' assets and philanthropic activities.
