It chronicles the stories of the people who were on the ground savings lives, the people who were reaching out to rescue the millions of abandoned animals, and the people who survived and heroically came back, dug in, and rebuilt their lives from the chaos. The stories reflect the thoughts of regular folks having to fight for their lives and finding heroism in their souls as they struggled to deal with the enormity of the storm.
Chris McCleary, Director of National Dream Center, joins us this Wednesday on The Best Years in Life Radio. Twelve Years A Slave, Solomon Northup descendant, Irene Zahos..Call To Action!
Join The Gist of Freedom as we welcome Irene Zahos! Mrs. Zahos is promoting a CALL TO ACTION on behalf of Solomon Northup, her great, great grandfather. The Solomon Northup Legacy is initiating a campaign to have Solomon recognized for his activism role to end slavery. His book, Twelve Years a Slave, was a catalyst that prompted people in the mid 1800's to look at slavery under the most extreme conditions of humanity and denigration of the human spirit.
Solomon Northup upon his release and rescue from bondage became involved with the Underground Railroad acting as a conductor taking escaped slaves from Vermont into the freedom of Canada. He selflessly believed that "all men were created equal and that they should all; that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
As we look at the 21st century and with Solomon's book having been adapted to the 2013 Academy Award winning film, 12 Years a Slave, a new conversation has become engaged with a CALL TO ACTION giving voice to another hidden aspect of slavery called, human trafficking. The international viewing of the film has encouraged action and some positive results through the work of the UN-ILO. It has also brought American History into the limelight bringing attention to America's Slave History on a plateau that had not been acknowledged before. The National School Boards Association (NSBA) partnered with New Regency, Penguin Books and the filmmakers to distribute copies of the acclaimed film, book and study guide to America's public high schools.

On "It's My House" we shall discuss what makes up a "Gentrified Person". People who are gentrified are slaves. By observation It takes a person about (12) years to BECOME a "Gentrified Slave". How does this happen :
12 years of "institutionalized" education.
12 years of being told to get a "job" instead of starting a business.
12 years of watchiing your parents buy things on credit that they could not afford.
After you graduate from high school or college.....you become a debt slave by purchasing a car, house, wedding rings, etc. etc.
People who live in neighborhoods that get gentrified are usually "Debt Slaves" and are too busy living the life of a slave and when they wake up....one day they discover that their neighborhood has become "The Plantation"...........and they have to move out.

The demographics and statistics are amazing. There are 2.5 animals (cats/dogs…etc. for every American home).
When a population of almost a million evacuates an area and is forced to leave their pets behind…the result is 2.5 million animals…homeless…ownerless…destitute. This was the situation during and after Hurricane Katrina. Indeed the animal issue was largely overlooked by all the rescuing agencies Federal and otherwise.
After Katrina, the animal population was largely overlooked within the rescue and aid infrastructure. All of the guests on Tuesday's show were on the ground and dedicated to the rescue of the animals left behind.
With hurricane season starting June 1st, this show is timely and hopefully can be used as a resource for the animal lovers of the Gulf Coast.
