Tonight we'll discuss the internet's favourite bad boy, 4chan. The site you all hate to love but love to hate, you all know what I'm talking about; the 4chan. 4chan has recently been all over the news with the suicide attempts and successes of it's users. We'll discuss how 4chan influences pop culture and how it's use of mob mentality can be dangerous.
Recently, a young man in Ontario was persuaded by the 4channers to try and commit suicide. This is a serious matter and not something to be taken lightly because of the implications at hand. The message board on 4chan known as "random" has been involved with many cyberattacks on critical government institutions; what should be done? Do you agree with law enforcement that sites like 4chan should be heavily monitered and shut down?
We'll discuss this and more tonight with our panel which will include; journalists and academics. It's an open forum program and as always, calls will be taken.
So in this episode we shall troll the trolls.
The Paul Elam Rape Apologists like Karen Straughan.
The Digital Black face trolls like Ani Difranco's Plantation Party friends.
And all the little Elliot Rodgers who position themselves to the right of gender politics.
Like all professional damsels in distress, Anita Sarkeesian had to choose a good dragon. Just the right looming shadow to fall over her delicate and fragile sensibilities; just the right cackling stage-villain to inspire her cries of helpless horror.
She chose 4-chan. An internet forum known for it's underbelly of foul-tempered and hair-triggered trolls.
But we at Honey Badger Radio have noticed something… odd. The wave of so-called hate that Anita received from her carefully chosen dragon, wasn't really all that bad.
Compared to 4-chan's usual scorched earth strategy--raizing everything to the ground and pissing on the ashes, Anita got a little singed, like she sat too close to a campfire.
So we have to ask… Did 4-chan white knight Anita? I mean, come on. Was that the best 4 chan could do?
We're back! Homer Bouvier will be making his BlogTalkRadio return as host of the new radio show, "Silver Millenium Radio"; a radio show that discusses Sailor Moon. Especially the new Sailor Moon Crystal series in July as well as the episodes on Hulu. Internet Graffiti will continue but only on TalkShoe & on an occasional basis rather than regular.
The topic of tonight's show: Who is best Sailor Senshi?
I have 3 rules for everyone who calls into Silver Millenium Radio:
1. Sailor Mars is best senshi.
2. Chibiusa is worst senshi.
3. Tuxedo Mask is not a Sailor Senshi. Don't bother saying he is best senshi.
*DISCLAIMER: This radio show is both a parody of both True Capitalist Radio & True Equestria Radio. Don't forget to support those radio shows(well, at least PonyToast's TER show).
Yes, you heard me. 10,000.
On tonight's episdoe, premiering the writing of Dave Polsky, we're going to discuss the episode, talk about the Daring Do fanon, and cause a general ruckus.
Currently we afford rape accusers anonymity. We only afford anonymity to the accuser for rape or other sexual crimes; we don’t do this for any other crime.
The rationale is that rape accusers face unique stigma for being seen as rape victims. Or rather they face the unique stigma of being accused of really having engaged in consensual sex.
As for the presumptively innocent men that they accuse…
Well, who gives a f**k about them and the stigma they face.
Join us tonight on this episode of Honey badger radio, Anonymity for me but not for thee. As we discuss anonymity in rape trials.
Also, last week we were trolled by 4chan. Specifically 4chan’s my little pony board. After weathering the fury and find it less than furious, we have to ask… did 4chan white knight… us?
Last Week's Show Notes
Sunday night Vince will be joined by digital activist and computer engineer Gregg Housh.
Gregg is best known for participating in the early Anonymous 4chan raids on the Church of Scientology. He was a major player in helping establish Chanology, the Anonymous campaign to discredit the controversial religious institution.
Gregg is currently self employed as a SEO consultant and no longer participates in Anonymous activities. Yet he is still seen as an expert on the inner workings of the mysterious, loose knit hacking collective and he continues to be a voice for online rights. Gregg is currently helping support jailed journalist Barrett Brown and is also working on a book about his experience with Chanology and Anonymous.
Tonight we will discuss: the history of Anonymous (especially the early Chanology days), the current state and future of digital activism, the cases against Barrett Brown/Jeremy Hammond/Aaron Swartz, the CFAA, YourAnonNews, Internet security, Big Data, SEO, lolcats, bacon, molecular biology, unicorns, synchronized swimming, ninjas and much more!
While the news reports lately have been saying the investigation into the Boston Marathon bombing that killed three and injured scores of others has hit a dead end, the sleuths over at 4chan and reddit seem to have made a breakthrough.
Are these the responsible parties? If so, who do they look so... ummm.....
