Join my special guest Phyllistene Lawson for a discussion of her book Quilt of Souls. Quilt of Souls is a memoir that represents the author's childhood, her loving grandmother, and an old, tattered quilt that tells the untold stories that have long since been hushed. A quilt sewn with the used clothing of her grandmother's loved ones. Each piece of fabric woven into the quilt tells stories of how that person lived and died. Tragic stories of pain and suffering threaded back together with each healing stitch of perseverance and courage. Grandma Lula Horn (1883-1986) was like many other grandmothers of her era, a pioneer, and a symbol of hope who found alternative ways to soften the horrors of racism and bigotry.
Ms. Lawson completed her military career in 2013. Prior to her completing 20 years of military service, she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. Ms. Lawson is married with two sons and five Granddaughter’s and currently reside in Florida.
The Cubs fell to the Giants today 9-1 and couldn't get much action at the plate against Madison Bumgarner. After dropping 2 of 3 in San Francisco, they head to LA for a 3 game series against the Dodgers. Cubs pitching is an ongoing roller coaster, and injuries to key players have caused manager Joe Maddon to shuffle things up on defense. Can the Cubs take the series from the Dodgers, who are also missing some big names?
Bulls star point guard Derrick Rose has been accused of drugging and raping an ex-girlfriend who filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles on Wednesday. The alleged incident occurred in August of 2013. What do we know, what don't we know, and why are Chicago stars marred by unwanted spotlight this summer?
The Bears' injury woes continue at the wide receiver position. Does Jay Cutler even know the names of the guys he's throwing to in practice? Does he care? And a suspension to a trusted veteran means more high expectations for young Bears on defense, which showed improvement vs the Colts. How will Da Bears perform in their dress rehearsal vs the Bengals?
All this plus your calls @ (347) 327-9183! BECAUSE CHICAGO LOVES SPORTS.

THIS WEEK’S MESSAGE:
Western music is not to be confused with Country music. Western music is a form of American folk music composed by and about the people who settled and worked throughout the Western United States and Western Canada. The Mexican folk music of the American Southwest also influenced the development of this genre. With the Traditional Western being a genre of various arts, such as comics, fiction, film, games, radio, television and music, getting "westerns" published and in the hands of fans can also be confusing and a challenge to understand. Tonight we learn about today's contemporary western music and about how today's publishing experts get the western genre to market.
In 2004, then-Dartmouth lacrosse goalie Andrew Goldstein wrote a powerful piece for Outsports about coming out to his lacrosse team. Since then, Andrew has played professional lacrosse, moved to Los Angeles, got married and is now on his way to curing cancer. Earlier this year he met Braeden, a young lacrosse player who was struggling with being gay. Goldstein knew he had to do something to help Braeden. This Sunday, Aug. 30, ESPN will air the story of Andrew, Braeden and the Courage Game that helped save young Braeden's life. We'll talk to Andrew about the story and his last 10 years.
This week a closeted gay high school football official in Louisiana wrote about his experiences there with homophobia and sexism. More and more gay officials are now talking with us about the environment they face from fans and from their fellow referees. We'll talk about the forgotten corner of the sports world and how we'll make it better.
Dr. Eric Pearl, founder of The Reconnection, has been featured in top media including The Dr. Oz Show, The New York Times and CNN. He has presented at leading venues including the United Nations and Madison Square Garden. His internationally bestselling book, The Reconnection: Heal Others, Heal Yourself, now in 39 languages, has been endorsed by such notables as Deepak Chopra, MD and Wayne Dyer, PhD. At the World Congress of Quantum Medicine Conference in Hawaii in 2013, Dr. Pearl’s keynote presentation was the highlight of the event. As the foremost visionary, leader and pioneer in the field of “Energy Medicine” or “Quantum Healthcare,” he is increasingly sought out as a speaker, expert authority and media spokesperson. As science, medicine, media and the public come to embrace Energy Healthcare, Pearl stands at the forefront. Dr. Pearl was running a successful chiropractic practice in Los Angeles when a series of unusual occurrences led him to realize that his purpose was far beyond anything he had previously known. Patient after patient reported healings from cancers, epilepsy, cerebral palsy and other severe health conditions, simply when Dr. Pearl held his hands near them. Seeking to understand what was happening, Dr. Pearl consulted with leaders in science, medicine, and spirituality – discovering they did not have the answers either. Supported by researchers affiliated with multiple prestigious institutions including Harvard, Yale, and Stanford, Dr. Pearl went on to pioneer studies on the Reconnective Healing frequencies and their effects on people – a comprehensive healing approach, which completely transcends “energy healing” and its complex rituals and techniques – known around the world today as Reconnective Healing.www.thereconnection.com
Shackles an affront to 'dignity and decorum' of court, appeals panel rules
By MAURA DOLANcontact the reporter
An appeals court Tuesday struck down a policy of routinely handcuffing and shackling pretrial detainees appearing before judges in the San Diego-based federal court district.
A three-judge panel of the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals said the Southern California district has not adequately justified its policy, adopted by the district judges in 2013 on the recommendation of the U.S. Marshals Service. The restraints include leg shackles and handcuffs linked to a belly band by a 15-inch chain.

Viki Winterton interviews Susana Tuya Sarmiento!
Susana is an international celebrity speaker, TV presenter and #1 Best-Selling Author. With women’s interests at heart and over twenty-five years of background experience in Body and Self-Image Psychology, Fashion, Styling, Personal Branding and Holistic Wellbeing, Susana delivers cutting-edge, life-enhancing tools and techniques.
Susana’s life in 2013 came to a total halt. After increasingly becoming chronically ill and being later diagnosed with ME/CFS (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis), she experienced a complete body lockdown for a year, unable to move due to the intensity of muscle and nerve pain.
Susana’s entire journey was documented so she could later transform the lives of others and gift us with her life-changing pearls of wisdom. From the hidden signs that we are ignoring daily that led to a healthy, happy and high energy woman to contract an autoimmune disease (amongst the top 10 leading causes of death in women), has come her knowledge of how to break the odds, NOT self-abandon, nor ignore the messages from inner guidance, heart and body and how it is only ‘us’ who hold the key to our self- healing.
Susana lives her message and it is a true testament to her life-calling experience to lead and inspire women to look, feel and thrive to their greatness.
