On this week’s edition of Scottscope Talk Radio, the roundtable reviews Dawn of the Planet of the Apes!  Is it as good as Rise of the Planet of the Apes?  Is it actually better?  Might it actually be the best film of the summer?  How good is Andy Serkis’s motion capture performance this time out?  Is it a career best for him?  Is Caesar possibly the most complex hero to grace the silver screen this summer?  Can Dawn be considered a loose remake of Battle for the Planet of the Apes?  Does the new, rebooted Apes franchise retain the spirit of the original films?  Will Caesar be appearing in future Apes films, or will the mantle be passed down to one of his sons?  Is the film too heavy handed in regards to its social commentary and political allegories?

We’ll also be celebrating the 25th anniversary of John Woo’s immortal action classic, The Killer!  Is it John Woo’s best work?  Does it contain Chow Yun Fat’s single greatest performance?  Is he one of the most iconic action heroes of his era?  Can it be considered the best “Heroic Bloodshed” film ever made?  Is it in the same class as Le Samouraï or Chang Cheh’s Vengeance?  Is it the single best film ever made about a lone hitman/assassin?  Could the film be taken as an unintentional comedy?  Should it be loved sincerely or ironically?  Why was the film more warmly received abroad than at home?  Should we count ourselves lucky that the proposed Hollywood remake never made it out of development Hell?
