On the Veteran’s Day Weekend edition of Scottscope Talk Radio, the roundtable discusses Thor: The Dark World! Is it better than the first film? Does it have the same pacing problems? Does setting most of the film in Asgard solve those problems? Can Chris Hemsworth’s Thor now be considered the definitive version? Does he “own” the role in the same manner that Robert Downey Jr. “owns” Tony Stark/Iron Man? Is he as vital to his own franchise? Is Loki now the definitive villain of the Marvel cinematic universe? Does he deserve such a distinction? Where does the franchise go from here?
We’ll also be celebrating the 20 anniversary of Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers). Is it truly the best of the Clan’s group albums? Can the solo albums be considered group albums as well? How has it held up over the past two decades? Does it still retain the same power? Does the minimalist approach to the production hopelessly date the entire album? Have the Clan’s contributions to Hip-Hop proved lasting, or fleeting? Which songs, if any, have stood the test of time? Which member shines the most? Does the Clan still matter?
Last but certainly not least, we also celebrate the 20 anniversary Midnight Marauders! Was it a fitting end to Tribe’s “holy trinity” of classic albums? Is it as good as The Low End Theory or People’s Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm? Is it musically superior to those albums? Does it represent Tribe at the height of their creative and commercial powers? Can it be considered the greatest single achievement to emerge from The Native Tongues? What has the album’s ultimate legacy been?
