On this week’s edition of Scottscope Talk Radio, we’ll be reviewing the new sci-fi thriller Gravity? Does it live up to the pre-release hype? Is it in the same class as 2001: A Space Odyssey and/or Alien? Should it even be compared to those films? Can it be considered a game changer in regards to its genre? Why didn’t such a (supposedly) thrilling film with A-List stars receive a summer release? Better yet, why didn’t Warner Brothers reserve it for the 2013 holiday season? Could it be up for Oscar consideration? Could the scenario depicted in the film actually happen? How realistic is it in regards to space exploration?
In keeping with the spirit of Gravity, we’ll also be talking about other space bound thrillers and adventure films. What is the best space movie of all time? What are the differences between a space opera like Star Wars and films like Gravity and 2001? How many truly great films has this subgenre produced? Considering that so many of Marvel and DC’s characters have had adventures in space, why do so many superhero films insist on remaining earth bound? Will the upcoming Star Wars films have to step their game up in the wake of Gravity?
