Scott Cluthe spreads the Happiness around tonight, with two special guests. First, he talks with co-author of 9 Rooms of Happiness,Catherine Birndorf, M.D. Then he spends time with the author of The Happiness Advantage,Shawn Achor. Shawn Achor spent over a decade living, researching, and lecturing at Harvard University, and draws on his own research—including one of the largest studies of happiness and potential at Harvard and others at companies like UBS and KPMG—to fix this broken formula. Using stories and case studies from his work with thousands of Fortune 500 executives in 42 countries, Achor explains how we can reprogram our brains to become more positive in order to gain a competitive edge at work. Catherine Birndorf, M.D., is a board-certified psychiatrist and the founding Director of the Payne Whitney Women's Program at New York Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center. She is Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Obstetrics & Gynecology, lectures internationally, and has a private practice in New York City. Dr. Birndorf is a contributing columnist for SELF. Check out The Keys Blog for her insights about psychological approaches to every day problems. The authors of 9 Rooms of Happiness comment on their new book: "Nine Rooms of Happiness is the first book we’ve written. In a million years, we never dreamed we'd write a book about happiness (neither one of us felt that a simple book could help make all women happy!) but as we developed greater understanding about what makes women (and ourselves) happier, we realized there are ways to make this complex subject accessible in a practical way."
