Hereafter, the new film directed by Clint Eastwood from a screenplay by Peter Morgan, opens nationally Friday. The film tells three stories about three people affected by death in different ways; Matt Damon as a factory worker who is able to communicate with the dead; Cécile de France as a television journalist who survives a tsunami; and Frankie and George McLaren play Marcus and Jason, two English brothers, one of whom is killed in a car accident. Scott Cluthe's guest Thursday night is Chris Carter, recognized authority on NDE's, or Near Death Experiences, and author of the newly released Science and the near Death Experience. While the film is certainly a much anticipated film event, what about the research and testimony of those who have actually experienced an alleged visit to the "other side" and returned to share their truth? Chris Carter, joining Scott from South America live, discusses: • Why near-death experiences (NDEs) offer evidence of an afterlife and discredits the psychological and physiological explanations for them • Challenges materialist arguments against consciousness surviving death • Examines ancient and modern accounts of NDEs from around the world, including China, India, and many from tribal societies such as the Native American and the Maori. Now, using scientific evidence, Chris Carter challenges materialist arguments against consciousness surviving death and shows how near-death experiences (NDEs) may truly provide a glimpse of an awaiting afterlife. Using evidence from scientific studies, quantum mechanics, and consciousness research, Carter reveals how consciousness does not depend on the brain and may, in fact, survive the death of our bodies. Chris Carter received his undergraduate and master’s degrees from the University of Oxford. The author of Parapsychology and the Skeptics, Carter is originally from Canada and currently lives in Venezuela.
