To thine own self be true
This above all: to thine own self be true,
And it must follow, as the night the day,
Thou can not then be false to any man     William Shakespeare (Hamlet)
Unless we can be true to ourselves first, we cannot be true to others. What does it mean to be true to yourself? Telling the truth and living the truth gives you the freedom to be who you really are.  When you speak your truth and live in truth with others you are living according to the highest spiritual laws- honesty, courage and love are enacted. When you do not live in your truth everything suffers- your mental, physical and emotional health. Your energy is drained.  Living in your truth gives you the energy, strength and happiness that naturally come from living an authentic life.Speaking your truth can sometimes take an act of courage.   The greatest act of love towards another is speaking your truth even when it is uncomfortable.  The first step in living your truth is to know what your truth is, start speaking your truth, and then start living it. For those of us who find it difficult to love ourselves, we will find it will come more easily when we know in truth who we are, what we need and how we feel.  If we live in truth, we walk in courage and in higher love.  Truth and love cast out all fear because there is nothing to hide, everything about us is open, honest and real.  When we are honest with ourselves, we are able to love ourselves more completely, and therefore do not crave the approval of others, and this is freedom indeed.
