Madison Carter's report on Parole focused on the economic toll that Virginia's Truth in Sentencing policies are having on Virginians. Yet behind the Economic costs are many more collateral consequences on certain segments of Virginia's citizenry that's often never talked about in the Criminal Justice debate here in Virginia. Askari will explore the Truth in Sentencing as a public policy and offer his analysis of it's purpose and it's function. Askari will attempt to put Truth in Sentencing into a larger context of class & racial oppression of certain citizens by the State of Virginia. The goal is to help citizens who are working to bring a fair, equitable, and affordable justice system to Virginia to develop a broader perspective of Virginia's Truth in Sentencing program.
