In her new book, The Luminous Heartbeat historian Wendy Victor points out that women were once the divine figures of power, much like the ancient Egyptians who viewed the universe as a male-female duality. She says the concept of male dominance is a fairly new development—just 5,000 years old. According to Victor, male influences have eclipsed the authority and impact of females, yielding a heavily patriarchal-spiritual world. Among many things, she says a move toward the written word and a departure from oral histories are responsible for rewriting women’s role in history and ultimately cultural norms – starting with the re-telling of the Garden of Eden. She reevaluates the balance between spiritual and terrestrial forces to reestablish the original covenant between women and God. Wendy appeals to women to regain their stature and authentic voices for the well-being of the world. From ancient times up to the present, she finds women at the heart of the life of their people. The Luminous Heartbeat was awarded a "Finalist" in the National Best Book Awards 2008 in the category "Women's Issues." Wendy holds a master’s degree in women’s history from Sarah Lawrence College and is a certified Feng Shui professional. She frequently contributes to the Palm Beach Daily News, and her distinguished community involvement in Palm Beach earned her the President’s Volunteer Service Award for Commitment to Strengthening Our Nation in 2006. www.luminousheartbeat.com
