SAblack was selected by The Black Board Times to conduct their book reviews for the 2003 Book Expo of America, (BEA) in 2003, on best sellers such as Patti Labelle's Cooking with Patty, Dirty Laundry and others. Community oriented, SABlack initiated the local, Abstinence Day event at the Carver Library in partnership with The National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy. During the campaign, SAblack reached out to the community, and local east side libraries to coordinate a local campaign, which allowed area teens to come in and take the quiz... During the annual event, we have hosted, Ms. Teen Texas, local and nationally known authors, and artists. The local project gained so many medium that it gained the attention of the San Antonio Express News, and several radio stations, including Project WORTH who now, along with the City of San Antonio Library Department hosts a citywide campaign. National Day Quiz through media partner’s radio station 98.5FM The BEAT, and Univision KWEX Channel 41. SABlack is also participating in this program May 6, 2009 in conjunction with military families and area San Antonio installations. We are asking teens to go online to StayTeen.org on May 6, 2009 and take the quiz. Beginning in 2004, SABlack collaborated with Lionsgate, Universal Pictures, and others to conduct screeners for the pre release of such films as The Break Up, The Wool Cap, and numerous other films. Culturally diverse, San Antonio Black's readership extends ton minorities and non minorites alike. SAblack also published its first printed version in 2006.
