This episode of Saint Jude Retreat’s Radio covers topics related to the 12 step program, Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). Actress, radio host and director, Monica Richardson is a special guest on the show. Richardson’s new film, the 13th step, which is a documentary that explores the presence of sexual abuse, rape, sexual exploitations and murder/assault cases that have occurred among newcomers to Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). She also manages the blog leavingaa.com and the blogtalkradio channel stop13steppinginAA, which supports and offers advice to ex-members of AA or those wishing to stop attending.

Throughout the course of the interview host Michelle Dunbar and Monica speak about their past experiences with AA. Michelle has been out of AA for over 22 years and now is the Executive Director of the Saint Jude Retreats. She explains how different the alternative program is and how it empowers people to change their lives. Richardson speaks about her experiences after AA and realizing how it really didn’t help her with her drinking problem, but rather made it bigger than it actually was. Both woman now successfully moderate alcohol uses without having a problem.

Michelle also highlights recent news where sexual molesters and abusers have been court-ordered to AA.  Richardson’s project exclusively highlights the dangers of AA and the fact that sexual molesters are often court ordered to AA and not always for alcohol or drug related crimes. The end of the show includes fan questions in regards to substance use.
