Travis Bryan III writes:

"The sword divides those who are trying to find life in this world from those who are willing to lose their life in this world in order to find real life, the life of the ages, eternal life. The sword that Jesus brought is the cross. The message of the lifestyle of the cross will either drive people away from or draw them to Jesus Christ. It will always do one or the other. There is no neutral position when you hear this Word. It divides families and churches and denominations. It divides asunder the soul and the spirit, the joints and the marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart (Heb 4:12).  It divided the Red Sea and the Jordan River metaphorically.  It is a sword to die by, not to kill with; of absorbing violence, not perpetrating it. It is naturally nonsensical and impractical.  It means we are willing to be vulnerable, sheep sent out into a world of wolves."
