The AfterThoughts News Hour With S. Denice Newton

"FOSTERING CHANGE IN A CHANGING WORLD!" We are information-gatherers and solution-seekers. Join us as we reach out across the globe in a true spirit of community and unity. With God almighty leading the way, we will pursue peace and be the voice "crying out" in these uncertain times. We will continue to promote the black youth empowerment movement, B.E.F.Y., (black, educated, focused, and young). The slogan, "It's Your Life, Get B.E.F.Y. With It! is the rallying cry to encourage minority youth to seek higher education as a deterrent and/or counter to the drug and gang culture plaguing the black community. Remember, God Is Spirit And He Wants To Connect With Yours!

    Original Air Date:

Charles Aulino: Lesser Known Giants of the 20th Century

"Lesser-known Giants of the 20th Century" is a non-fiction work whose subject is summed up very well in its title. It was written by Charles M. Aulino, who is an attorney with a 30-year background in estate, trust, tax, and financial planning and practice, A New Jersey native and resident, Aulino is described as "a serious amateur pianist and private pilot" in a press release for the book. This may be his first book, though I am not certain about that. Aulino's book concerns the stories of eleven "lesser known" people, according to its title. Most of the eleven are quite well known, actually, for some achievement thay have accomplished, and most would be considered successful or famous. What Aulino's book attempts to do, however, is to look at these eleven people's "backstories" and uncover some achievements which are perhaps not as well known as the achievements for which they have become famous.

  • Original Air Date:

    Gaellen Quinn: The Last Aloha

How did Hawaii become part of America? This story, inspired by true events suppressed for nearly 100 years, is the one James Michener never wrote. In 1886, Laura Jennings travels to Hawaii to live with missionary relatives. She imagines she'll live in a grass hut, ministering to savages. When she arrives in Honolulu, she's surprised to find her relatives are among the wealthy elite plotting to overthrow the Hawaiian monarchy. And, far from being savages, the Hawaiians have developed a charming and prosperous Victorian kingdom. To avoid her conniving uncle's control, Laura leaves to work for the royal family and learns her family's prejudices against them are false. The last Queen, Lili-uokalani, wages a tragic struggle to save the Kingdom. Through choices she makes when every avenue is blocked, Laura sees the power that can restore the spirit of a people caught in a turbulent world and discovers how long-hidden secrets of her own family lead the way to reunion.

Debbie Jordan: The World I Imagine

Book: The World I Imagine: A Creative Manual For Ending Poverty And Building Peace The essays in this collection introduce creative ideas for ending poverty everywhere, in the hope that humans can finally build a truly peaceful society where everyone enjoys at least the basic benefits of prosperity, for the first time in history. Peace Breeds Prosperity; Poverty Hinders Peace Peace and poverty cannot coexist. Peace is not merely the absence of conflict. Establishing and maintaining peace will take far more creativity, dedication, and hard work than war ever did. True peace would be much cheaper and far less traumatic than any war, but, to date, no one has been able to pull it off. The essays in this collection introduce creative ideas for ending poverty everywhere, in the hope that humans can finally build a truly peaceful society where everyone enjoys at least the basic benefits of prosperity, for the first time in history.
