Hi, my name is Dana... I am a recovering addict . . .
I will be 52 years old in March, 2014.
There have been many crisis’ in my life. I smoked pot from the time I was 14 until I was in my 30's. Past drug use includes alcohol, cocaine, crack cocaine & marijuana. Alcohol has never been my drug of choice, however, it is still a drug & I have only abstained from that for 6 years in the past 30.
30 years ago it was cocaine, alcohol & pot. In 1989 I went into Chemical Dependency (CD) treatment and was successful. I was completely clean for 5+ years. I did relapse & begin to smoke pot & drink again.
18 years ago I started using crack cocaine (they say when you relapse you take off right where you left off, which I did). I went into inpatient CD treatment for that, quit & stayed off crack cocaine, however after a couple of years of complete sobriety, I began smoking pot & drinking again.
During 2007 & 2008 I was drinking too much & at the wrong times. Having been in treatment 2 times before, I knew the 12-steps, had the tools, and knew if I didn’t get help that it would dictate my life. For the 2nd time since 1989, I went into inpatient treatment in May, 2008. I was working recovery after getting out of treatment in June 2008. I relapsed after 10 months of sobriety in March 2009.
I decided that because of previous relapses and prevention skills that I had not learned and/or adhered to in the past that this would be a good time for me to take things a step further. I attended 4-5 meetings a week and was GSR (General Service Rep) at two meetings.
I am now working MY recovery program and going on 6 years of being physically AND emotionally sober.
