My name is "J.S” I’m using my initials to further protect my anonymity because I work in the sex industry.

I first got sober in 1997, was sober for five years, drank and bounced in and out of the rooms for 10 years.

My children are back in my life and I'm in a happy marriage with another clean/sober man in The Program. From the outside, it looks like a very normal life. It would appear that I simply operate a strictly therapeutic massage practice, working with other unexceptional looking massage therapists in discrete commercial location.  I drive an unexceptional car, live in an unexeptional house on an unexceptional street in a nice, suburban neighborhood.

However, after 5 years, I am tired of working in a business where I always fear arrest, pushy clients and stalkers. If giving men a good massage and a good happy ending where legal where I live - regulations in the industry would make it easier for sex workers to go to work on a daily basis without fearing arrest or harm.  Currently, this isn't the case.

Alkies and addicts have a difficult time staying clean and sober in LEGITIMATE jobs - let alone illegal ones - so I feel it's best for my sobriety to leave.

The expungement of my conviction will be complete in about two weeks and I finally be able to leave this line of work. I will always participate in the clean and sober group to help others like me. Sex workers don't to feel ashamed, alone, strung out and hopeless. We can learn to accept ourselves and gain greater insights into our sexuality and humanity - and still stay clean and sober.
