Lucas S. Jack - Biltmore Rosarian
Lucas Jack has served as Biltmore’s Rosarian since 2011. In this role, his responsibilities include overseeing the care of 1,800 roses in the Historic Rose Garden and maintaining the space as a world class show garden for guests within the Historic Walled Garden. Lucas is also involved in research and restoration projects related to the Rose Garden, including efforts to restore the garden to the lush opulence it enjoyed in the 1930s. In addition, Lucas oversees Biltmore’s International Rose Trials.

At the age of 14, Lucas began working in landscaping and operated his own business for several years. In 2004, he interned with Biltmore’s Arboriculture Department. Three years later, Lucas graduated from Haywood Community College with a degree in Forestry. Lucas serves on the board of directors for the North Carolina Arboretum in Asheville. He and his wife are the proud parents of one child and are expecting another.

A National Historic Landmark, Biltmore is the private home of the late George W. Vanderbilt, now owned by his grandson, William A. V. Cecil. The property, which has been open to the public since 1930, is completely self-sufficient and receives no outside funding. Biltmore includes America’s largest private residence, Biltmore House, designed by renowned 19th century architect Richard Morris Hunt, and the surrounding 8,000 acres of gardens and forests, landscaped by Frederick Law Olmsted. Today, Biltmore has grown to include Antler Hill Village, which features the award-winning Winery and Antler Hill Farm; the four-star Inn on Biltmore Estate; Equestrian Center; numerous restaurants; event and meeting venues; and Biltmore For Your Home, the company’s licensed products division.
