For the Atlanta Falcons, 2012 couldn't seem further away. They haven't made the playoffs since. 2014 was the year they were supposed to bounce back & be contenders again, but they suffered yet another double-digit loss season. & as a result, former head coach Mike Smith was sent packing. So out he goes & in comes former Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, who I think will have a lot of work to do w/ that defense. When that offense is healthy, the Falcons can score amongst any team in the NFL. One of the main problems last year was guys staying healthy. Another problem was the offensive line protection. This unit gave up 31 sacks in 2014. & after that dreadful meltdown in London against the Lions, many of us knew that Mike Smith's time was ticking. That loss sealed his fate in Atlanta. Now you got the team under investigation for crowd noise. They could've used projecters & graphic effects & it wouldn't have made a difference considering the way they've played these past 2 years. I'm not going to say time is ticking on the Falcons, cause they can compete w/ anyone when healthy. But I will say that the NFC South is up for grabs this year, & the Falcons have a legitimate shot at division supremacy. Will this team EVER get over the hump? Will they EVER win a Super Bowl? Will 2015 be a bounce back season? We'll talk about it in another installment of "The Rocket Sports Breakdown" Monday morning July 13 @ 10:30am. Rocket Nation, get ready for a power trip.
