Robin Falls Kids

Children’s book author April Robins and her friends will act as your Hosts to open the gate at Robin Falls and welcome you into their Meadow of Books. Accompany the Host through the Meadow and meet Children’s Book and YA Author/Illustrator friends. In the Meadow’s garden, masterpieces of art and words are continually blooming and ready to be picked. So please sit in a circle on the green grass and listen to the storytellers paint with words. They will be glad to answer your questions once they have finished their presentation. Always, watch out for the hummingbirds and dragonflies. They too love the colorful books. They also love Robin Falls Magazine and you will too.

Show Notes

Robin Falls Kids welcomes you to shows packed with Children's and Young Adult Authors and Illustrators. * 1st Monday – Tea Time with Host Dellani Oakes is a chance for young adult authors to have a casual chat about their books. They will be able to give purchase information, read an excerpt and discuss (if they like) their writing process, where their ideas come from and anything else they think will appeal to their readers. Audience questions encouraged and hoped for! She would like to showcase young adult authors who write to inspire, encourage, counsel and entertain young adult readers. As a former 'reluctant reader' (and mother of two more) Dellani would like to explore ways to encourage all teens and tweens to read more. * 2nd Monday – Chirp with April & Peggy is Hosted by April Robins. April will interview children’s authors and illustrators. Guests will discuss their works and read excerpts. * 3rd Monday – Let’s Talk with Barbara M. Hodges. Barbara will have as her guest Children’s authors. Come find out why someone decides to write for children and hear readings from their current and upcoming releases. * 4th Monday - Laurie & Co. with Host Laurie Zieber celebrates the books we love for our whole lives! If you're an author of a very special book, Laurie wants to introduce you and your book to our listeners, and likely, someone who will love it forever! * 5th Monday in 2010 – a new show dedicated to artists and illustrators Hosted by Illustrator/Author Mj Gillot. Robin Falls Kids - Laurie & Co.

Lisa M. Cottrell-Bentley, author of "Wright on Time: ARIZONA, Book 1". This is the first book in a series of children's chapter books about an RV-living, homeschooling family who travels around the USA. Each book is set in a new state, with a different fun and educational theme. Lisa shared with me a little about her life and what led her to write: "My daughters were definitely the impetus for my writing children's books. I've been a long time writer (fiction and non-fiction) for adults, but I only started writing children's books about 2-3 years ago. Although I did write child friendly stories when I was a child. My daughters are currently 8 and 12. We've spent hundreds (probably thousands) of hours reading together. Over time, we started daydreaming together about what our favorite storyline would be. They (and their friends) all wanted to see books with actual homeschooled kids like them and parents who were present (and not mean). I always love a bit of mystery and science fiction (and so do my kids), so a bit of both are in all of my books including the "Wright on Time" books. My daughters and I spend hours talking about the fictional Wright family and their travels and we have been going to all the states as part of the research for each of the books. It's been an incredibly rewarding and fun experience and sharing it with my family has brought us all even closer. :) Laurie&Co. at Robin Falls Kids is pleased to debut the work of this new and talented author! Please see http://www.WrightOnTimeBooks.com for more information on the books, myself, and much more!

Robin Falls Kids - A Conversation WITH YOU

A Conversation with YOU, Hosted by April Robins, welcomes Author Pat McCarthy. Pat taught elementary school for 30 years, so she has a pretty good idea of what kids like and what they can read at different levels. Pat has 14 books published, all for kids. But she is most excited about her new book, Heading West: Life with the Pioneers, from Chicago Review Press. That’s because it will be the first book that is sold in bookstores. All the other books were for schools and libraries. Pat wanted to write a book about the life of Laura Ingalls Wilder, who wrote Little House on the Prairie. Her editor thought if I made it about all pioneers, it would sell better, so she did that. Most of the books on the show are fiction – stories. Pat’s book is nonfiction. She had to do a lot of research to find all the facts needed. She read lots of diaries, journals and letters that the pioneers wrote. She tried to pick out things that would be interesting to kids. When she quoted things the pioneers had written, she paid special attention to what the pioneer kids had to say. Her book tells about how the West was explored and the men who blazed the trails. It tells about the trip West by train, boat, on foot, but mostly by covered wagon. A chapter tells about the kinds of homes pioneers had and how they built them. Another chapter tells about pioneer communities. Then there are chapters about pioneer men, pioneer women, and pioneer children. The end of the book tells about the end of the pioneer era. The book also has 21 activities for kids to do with their parents. You can learn to make butter, play pioneer games, make toys, and lots of other fun things. Pat’s site is www.patmccarthysauthorwebsite.blogspot.com
