Throughout the summer of 2011, I spent hundreds of hours on the phone with Patrick McStay, the father of Joseph McStay, researching and writing a book about the family's disappearance. By September of 2011, it because obvious that Patrick and I could no longer work together because of his less than transparent approach to the facts of the disappearance. We parted ways shortly thereafter and I shelved the almost-completed manuscript. In the summer of 2012, I was handed hundreds of pages of documents relating to the McStay mystery and decided to complete the book, scheduled for release on the third anniversary of the disappearance, February 4, 2013. I released NO GOODBYES: The Mysterious Disappearance of the McStay Family and it was instantly surrounded by controversy. Relatives of the missing McStay family did not want their dirty laundry aired publicly and launched their smear campaigns to discredit my book, myself and anyone else who supported asking the critical questions that had engulfed this mystery. Like a lyme-diseased blood-sucking tick, their campaign continues today with a series of anonymous blogs written by the cowardly shadow people who are fueled by the McStay relatives. After the remains of the family were found in November of 2013, I removed my book from distribution and offered a full refund to anyone who had purchased the book prior to the discovery of the remains. Most of the proceeds from book sales were donated to Texas Equusearch, with the remainder used to reimburse expenses in my search for the family in 2011-2012.
