Richard Rossi hosts Daren Moore, head of the Conservative Christian Coalition who is leading an effort to stop Richard's Roberto Clemente film. Richard allows his critic to express his opposition in this no-holds barred confrontation. Mr. Moore released a statement at a press conferrence:

"The purpose of this press conference is to go on record that we oppose the Pope's upcoming meeting with filmmaker Richard Rossi regarding the canonization of Roberto Clemente as reported this week in the Salt Lake Tribune. We are organizing as an ad hoc committee of conservative Christians and Catholics to oppose Clemente's canonization. We find the images in Mr. Rossi's film "Baseball's Last Hero: 21 Clemente Stories" highly offensive, and an egregious example is the scene of Roberto Clemente on the cross instead of Christ. Mr. Rossi is worshipping Clemente instead of Christ. We believe the efforts of this liberal Pope who does not follow the Bible and this blasphemous film portraying Clemente as Christ are an offense to moral individuals of faith.  The violent depiction of a naked black man on the sacred cross is the height of sacrilege."

Daren Moore, President

Disclaimer: Daren Moore, like his idol Fred Phelps, leads a small cult of mostly family members. Google yields little info about him.  Moore says this is because he formed his group "ad hoc" to protest Richard Rossi as Fred Phelps has done. Why did Richard host a guest with little accessible background & extremist Religious Right viewpoints? To expose the dangers of an imbalanced letter-of-the-law literalism that places judgment over mercy, preaches hate instead of love, & bullies others instead of blessing them. Some may say Moore's views are "fake," that no real person can think as he does. Unfortunately, such religious legalism is all too real.
