Rex Sikes' Movie Beat chats with casting director Jackie Burch

Casting Director Jackie Burch says about casting “It is a career i cherish and love doing to this day. Every movie i start with the same attitude as if it is my first job.” Her over 60 film credits include “The Breakfast Club” “Mask” “Weird Science” “Commando” “Three Amigos” “Predator” “Coming to America” “Dick Tracy” “Road House” “Die Hard” “Die Hard 2” “Predator 2” “Hudson Hawk” “Beverly Hills Cop 2”“Vegas Vacation” “I Still Know What You DId Last Summer” “End of Days” “The Santa Claus” and many more. After teaching for awhile in another profession (teaching sign language) a friend asked her to come work for him while his assistant was gone. That person was Michael Chinich who was head of casting at Universal and Jackie agreed to do the work. She states she “literally fell into this career but once i was around it I was hooked...... I had no typing skills and had to be trained by someone in the big tower over the phone but i loved it. I soon wrote a little book to teach the next person because at the time there was so much paperwork to do........ After being around this job I wanted to move up. I couldn't do it here so i went into the independent world and began my life in casting.” “I used to do all the casting but never meet the director when i worked for various people. After being in the field for a while, Michael asked me to come back and be on staff. My first movie was Psycho 2 and then i started 16 candles and the rest is history............... My sign language has come in handy because I Taught an actress it for a Hot Shots part Deux and some signs to the monkeys in Project X  when the deaf consultant had to leave.........” We are glad to have Jackie share her knowledge about movies, casting, working with actors - what actors need to know about the casting process and auditioning and much more.

Rex Sikes' Movie Beat chats with director Jon Keeyes Pt 4

More to come in Pt 4! We continue with: What is the difference between directing your own versus someone else's screenplay? And a whole lot more. With six feature films, Jon Keeyes is one of the hardest working directors in the southwest. Jon made his writing/directorial debut in 2001 with “American Nightmare.” This critically-acclaimed horror film followed serial killer Jane Toppan on Halloween night as she brings to life the fears of a group of friends. “American Nightmare” was released to North America by Monarch Home Video/Ingram Entertainment. Internationally, Horizon Motion Pictures has sold “American Nightmare” to nearly all major countries around the world. Following the success of “American Nightmare,” Jon was hired by producer Michael Raso to write and direct “Suburban Nightmare.” A satire on the disintegration of marriage, “Suburban Nightmare” spends the night with The Rosenblads as their relationship crumbles around them with violent and tragic consequences. “Suburban Nightmare” was released in June of 2004 to rave reviews including numerous “top ten” lists. Jon most recently completed “Fall Down Dead” starring Dominique Swain, Udo Kier and David Carradine. A suspense thriller combining elements of “Panic Room” and “Saw,” it was released theatrically in 2008 to the international market. Along with a constant flow of feature film work, Jon was an Academy Award finalist with his short film “Angela’s Body,” has directed episodes of the Danica McKellar show “Inspector Mom” for The Lifetime Channel, produced the web series “Exposed” for Warner Bros. and McG’s company Wonderland, sold his screenplay “The Assassination Game” to Bigfoot Entertainment and is currently producing the indie feature, “Spilt Milk.” Stay tuned to Rex Sikes Movie Beat for other great archived interviews, cast and crew listings, events, festivals, premieres, and more at http://www.rexsikes.com

As well as performing over 40 plays, she also worked for 20 years in the theatre & film industry as a set costumer working on T.V. series such as “Highlander”, Spielburg’s “Taken”, Paramount’s “Higher Ground”; feature films such as Disney’s “Angels In The EndZone”, and “The Lizzie McGuire Movie”,” Universal’s “Snow Falling On Cedars” and many more. Marshall, she shares in teaching the “Directing the actor” workshop for film students worldwide. "Buffoonery Acting Techniques" with Trilby Jeeves is a 2-day journey of discovery for actors on how to tap into truthful performances. Actors will gain more confidence, and more understanding where emotion resides in the body. Each exercise leads the actor to an improved performance for both the camera and the stage. The goal of the workshop is to awaken the actor to their potential, understand more who they are, and give the actor a tool they can use on their own for auditions, rehearsals and performances.
