Combining glamour and glory is the imprint of Shekinah Cosmetics, Inc on the beauty industry scene. Founder and Creative Director, Karla Scott is a fore-runner and a trail-blazer by nature, “born of pioneering stock”, says Scott. Her family is one of the oldest Black families in her hometown of Pittsburgh, Pa. and the entrepreneurial bent is inherently inborn as well, with close family ties to one of Pittsburgh’s oldest, successful Black owned businesses . As a 30 year veteran in the beauty and cosmetics industry, she is not only an innovative makeup artist and licensed Aesthetician; she is also a licensed minister of the Gospel. At home now in the Little Rock, Arkansas area, Scott owns and operates New Beginnings Transformation Center, a Day Spa in N. Little Rock, where the offerings include heavenly facials, massages, eyebrow design, eyelash extensions and of course, makeup. The eyelash extension business is a booming one and a natural tie-in with the cosmetics. “They call me the Lash Queen of Arkansas!” she says with a smile. Her clientele ranges from State Government officials, doctors, attorneys and other high profile women to working moms, and grocery store managers. “The lashes are a definite addiction of the good kind!” Scott shares. “They let you wake up cute every morning!” Scott also is the only certified trainer in the state of Arkansas, so she trains other beauty professionals in Arkansas and the surrounding southern region.
