    Connecting with God...

Working with the National Prayer Center has enabled me to absorb what seems to be the most common struggles that many Christians Face. The descriptions varry but the signs are all the same. Many of us are struggling with connecting with God.

You may be dealing with an abundance of issues right now and you don't really want to think that you are missing God on something. But the truth is that God has a plan for every struggle we can face and if you haven't been able to grasp the plan then you are missing the God connection in the struggle. You see many of us tend to look for God somewhere on the outside of our troubles but He isn't there. Let's take a moment and look at a great Biblical account that can prove to be useful... Now get your Bible out and some paper. your gonna need this later...

Dan 3:11 And whoever does not fall down and worship, he should be thrown into the midst of a burning fiery furnace.
Dan 3:12 There are men, Jews, whom you have set over the business of the province of Babylon, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. These men, O king, do not heed you. They do not serve your gods nor worship the golden image which you have set up.
Dan 3:13 Then Nebuchadnezzar in anger and wrath commanded them to bring Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. Then they brought these men before the king.
Dan 3:14 Nebuchadnezzar spoke and said to them, Is it true, O Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego? Do you not serve my gods, nor worship the golden image which I have set up?
Dan 3:15 Now if you are ready, at the time you hear the sound of the horn, the pipe, zither, the lyre, harp, and bagpipe, and all kinds of music, fall down and worship the image which I have made. But if you do not worship, in that moment you shall be thrown into the middle of a burning fiery furnace. And who is that god who shall deliver you out of my hand?
Dan 3:16 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego answered and said to the king, O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to return a word to you on this matter.
Dan 3:17 If it is so that our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, then He will deliver us out of your hand, O king.
Dan 3:18 But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods nor worship the golden image which you have set up.
Dan 3:19 Then Nebuchadnezzar was filled with wrath, and the form of his face was changed against Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. He spoke and commanded that they should heat the furnace seven times more than it was usually heated.
Dan 3:20 And he commanded mighty men in his army to tie up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, and to throw them into the burning fiery furnace.
Dan 3:21 Then these men were tied up in their slippers, their tunics, and their mantles, and their other clothes, and were thrown into the middle of the burning fiery furnace.
Dan 3:22 Then because the king's commandment was urgent, and the furnace exceedingly hot, the flame of the fire killed those men who took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.
Dan 3:23 And these three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, fell down bound into the midst of the burning fiery furnace.
Dan 3:24 Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was amazed. And he rose up in haste and spoke and said to his advisers, Did we not throw three men bound into the middle of the fire? They answered and said to the king, True, O king.
Dan 3:25 He answered and said, Behold! I see four men loose, walking in the middle of the fire, and there is no harm among them. And the form of the fourth is like a son of the gods.
Dan 3:26 Then Nebuchadnezzar came near the door of the burning fiery furnace. He answered and said, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, servants of the Most High God, come forth and come here. Then Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, came forth from the middle of the fire.
Dan 3:27 And the satraps, the prefects, the governors, and the king's advisers gathered and saw these men on whose bodies the fire had no power (and the hair of their head was not scorched, nor were their slippers changed, nor had the smell of fire clung on them).

Now, where was God during this trial? He was in the midst of Shadrach,Meshach and Abednego. They came out of the fire as if they had never been near it while those who cast them into the fire were consumed by the fire.

God can be most certainly found if you will just use your Faith. Now does this scripture give you any reason to suspect that the three had fear? No! They knew God had a plan. They had no idea what it was, I'm sure. However they knew He'd show up when it was the right time. They connected to God and stayed connected when even facing what the enemy planned to be the end for them.

Connecting with God is a choice and a mindset. There are a few things that we must do to ensure that we have made connection and remain connected with God Before, During and After the trials come. Let's take some notes from the scripture above and examine the steps they took...

    • First of all they remained faithful and obedient to God regardless of the trials that came... (verse 12)

    • They also remained confident and kept God given Faith even when they faced death... (verse 16)

    • In addition they spoke boldly to the trial (the prophesied to it) without waivering... (verse 17)
    • Finally they allowed God to get the glory for the victory He had brought them to... (verse 26)

It's important to note that while they did all these things flawlessly that the fire was kindled even greater and they were indeed cast into that fire. Yet the came out as if they hadn't even been near it because they connected and stayed connected with God Before, During and After this trial.

I know the heartaches and pressures that come. I too have had a mountain of challenges come all at once. Sometimes I stayed conneted with God and He was glorfied in and through me and other times I failed to stay connected and fell flat on my face. An important key to staying connect is also realizing that we are powerless without God and He wants us to rely on Him. Don't ever think that God grows tired of our needs. He thrives on you needing Him. He wants more though. He wants relationship with you. A lifestyle of being connected with God.
