  • The Church of God relating to Today & You're really praying for me?

    in Christianity

Jesus promised His Church that the “gates of Hades”—the grave—would never prevail against it. The true Church of God would not die out; it would survive any attempts to destroy it. How can you find that true Church of God, the Church Jesus built? How can you locate God’s special people in the midst of the splintered and fractured faith known as Christianity? What distinguishes them from those to whom Jesus Christ said, “I never knew you”? (Matthew 7:23). To answer these questions we need to understand an important lesson Jesus explained in a parable. & Has someone ever personally shared a hard or important moment of their life with you? How did you respond? In this third in a series about experiences in prayer I'd like to talk about effectively delivering powerful prayers on behalf of others.

All these questions, and many more, are answered in the first book of the Bible, Genesis, which means origin. Here we receive God’s answers about many important questions—and from Someone who was there! So let’s go to this, the first book in the Bible, to find its answers to commonly asked questions.

  • Answers From Genesis,pts 3 and 4

    in Christianity

We continue with general questions about the book of Genesis. Here are the answers as we best understand them in light of the Bible. Were the six days of creation literal days? Some contend that each of the days of creation in Genesis 1 represented a long span of time. Yet consider that fruit-bearing plants were created on the third day while insects to pollinate them were not created until a few days later. If these were millions of years apart, the plants would not have survived. Note that the Bible is quite clear about how long each day was

  • Answers From Genesis, Part 5 & 6

    in Christianity

Who were the “sons of God” mentioned in Genesis 6:1-4? Scholars debate and disagree over the meaning of the reference to “the sons of God” in Genesis 6:1-4. Some people read into these verses the idea that it refers to angelic beings marrying women and producing a race of giants. Christ explained that is impossible, teaching that angels don’t marry and, by implication, don’t produce children either (Luke 20:34-36). Human beings are clearly the subject in Genesis 6

  • Answers From Genesis, Part 7 & 8

    in Christianity

This ongoing dilemma is one of the reasons we continue addressing some of the questions young people have about the book of Genesis. Of course, even apart from that, this book that lays the foundation for the rest of Scripture merits a lot of attention. Some believe the Table of Nations in Genesis 10 is mostly fictional. Are they right? Genesis 10 traces the genealogies of mankind after the Flood through the descendants of Noah’s three sons up to shortly before the time of the Hebrew patriarch Abraham.

Does Salvation come through the Cross or the Church?

    in Christianity

Growing up in Mormonism, we did not talk about the Cross. Instead, we were taught that Jesus atoned for our sins in the Garden of Gethsemane. We did not talk about the cross and were told not to display it. The Mormon teaching says that the cross could not exceed the Garden, but the Bible shows that the Cross is what triumphed over our sin.
Luke 9:23: "And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me."
Galatians 6:14: "But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ..."
The Bible teaches that true Christians will glory in the cross and John 18:11 proves that Jesus' greatest work of atonement was not completed in the Garden, but rather on the cross when it reports at John 18:11 that Jesus had not yet completed the "cup" of atonement in the Garden. Likewise, Romans 4:25 says Jesus was "delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification."  Jesus was not "delivered" to the Garden, but rather to the cross.
Furthermore, the Mormon Church teaches that we must go through them for salvation, yet the Bible teaches the opposite.
Acts 16:31: "And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house."
No religious duties can take away our sins. Only Jesus Christ can take away our sins.

About Religion

From the most fervent among us to those just beginning to explore the possibilities, religion is a powerful force in our lives. BlogTalkRadio is where believers and nonbelievers of every denomination gather day in and day out to find resources, preach to others practicing and discuss the specific belief systems that guide us, bind us and often divide us. Christians, Pagans, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, Pantheists, Sikhs, Jews, Wiccans, Unitarians, Satanists, Druids, Agnostics, Atheists, Secular Humanists and more will find likeminded friends to dialogue with, whether in heated debates or in collective prayer. You'll hear from bestselling authors, world leaders and kindred followers for inspiration and fellowship. And for those listeners and hosts who consider themselves spiritual but not religious, we've even got a separate Spirituality category to explore beliefs on your own terms.
