After writing hits for such artists as Patti LaBelle, Tom Jones, Chante Moore and Stephanie Mills, Carol Duboc began sharing her own musical heart in a more powerful and intimate way, launching her career as a contemporary jazz artist. Since the 2001 release of her critically-acclaimed debut, ?With All That I Am,? the multi-talented vocalist, songwriter and producer has carved out a unique niche sharing deeply-felt original songs that are all at once beautifully stylish and lyrically direct and insightful. Former Los Angeles Times jazz critic Don Heckman captured the sultry singer's magical essence perfectly when he wrote, ?The keenly imaginative (Duboc) is one of the most interesting and dynamic jazz singers of her generation.? ?Colored Glasses,? Duboc's latest full-length Gold Note Music recording, is the perfect follow-up to her revealing and very personal 2013 release, ?Smile,? whose single ?Elephant? rose to No. 2 on the Groove Jazz Music chart and No. 28 on the Billboard tally. While the songs on ?Smile? were inspired by the steep challenges and wonderful joys of keeping a long-term relationship afloat, ?Colored Glasses? expands the emotional landscape to encompass the aftermath of a difficult breakup, where the heart knows it must let go and move on, but is continually drawn back to the person it can't stop loving. Written during an intense period of adjustment during which Duboc assumed the role of a single parent to her eight year-old daughter, the songs on the ten-track collection reflect on all the residual emotions inherent in such a transition. They're about hopes and dreams fostered and dashed, lush fantasies tempered by sobering realities and moments of clarity amidst whirlwinds of doubt.
