Carroll, a former Demarest mayor, is running for County Executive in 2014. He was the first Democrat to declare himself a candidate. But he is not expected to be the only one in the race for his party's nomination

Surrogate Michael Dressler also is considering a bid. And if Dressler opts out, there are several other potential Democratic candidates in the wings.
