Join us Thursday, Aug. 9 at 10 a.m. when our guest on Record Talk Radio will be Bergen County Freeholder Maura DeNicola.
We'll talk to DeNicola about the debate over whether the merge the County Police with the Sheriff's department, a move that she has opposed.
We'll also discuss her opposition to placing a non-binding referendum on the police consolidation issue on the general election ballot in November.
Last week, DeNicola and Freeholder Robert Hermansen walked out of a scheduled freeholder meeting after a last minute ordinance was introduced that called for eliminating the county police.
By leaving the meeting, the board was left without a quorum and therefore was unable to vote upon the proposed ordinance as well as a resolution calling for the question to be placed on the ballot.
DeNicola is a former Franklin Lakes mayor who was elected to the freeholder board in November 2010.
She also served on the Creamer Commission, a volunteer group appointed by County Executive Kathleen Donovan to study the issue of police consolidation.
The panel recommended against merging the county police into the sheriff's department.
