However, as much as she enjoyed “being” a speech pathologist, she listened to her  heart which inspired her and to expand her capacity beyond the school walls. It turns out that by experimenting with technology, she found herself immersed in the new field of digital health including using applications for a more inclusive society.  Her interest grew as she witnessed the use of digital technology by a broader population of people, including the disabled and elderly to improve their health and wellbeing. Today, she shares her knowledge about using technology and app development to educate others to make a difference for the growing elderly population.  She has spoken at many national and international conferences on the use of technology and disabilities including SXSWInteractive, While we sometimes get overwhelmed with the idea of reinventing ourself, by integrating the past with our emerging passions, we can see that all that is required is tuning in to your own desires and believing in what stirs you. The big question is: what is stirring inside you must be revealed with action, trying and learning. It’s all about curiosity and experimentation to live the journey you desire!   00:30:00kelleyconnorsnolife design coaching,Business Coaching for Women,Women's EmpowermentA Real Women on Health online radio show interview with Kelley Connors, MPH, Womens’ Life Coach and Betsy Furler, CEO, Communications Circles Betsy Furler s81cb043b-e7a7-41de-ad1f-a78540d752e211fullReady to find your inner artist and move towards what's next?http://www.blogtalkradio.com/realwomenonhealth/2016/12/08/ready-to-find-your-inner-artist-and-move-towards-whats-nextHealthhttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/realwomenonhealth/2016/12/08/ready-to-find-your-inner-artist-and-move-towards-whats-next/#commentshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/realwomenonhealth/2016/12/08/ready-to-find-your-inner-artist-and-move-towards-whats-nextThu, 08 Dec 2016 23:30:00 GMTReady to find your inner artist and move towards what's next?Has anyone ever told you "you're not an artist"...well, I've believed it myself about me for some time. Empowering a new generation of seekers to view aging as a spiritual path, authors Robert Weber and Carol Orsborn reveal that it is by engaging with the difficult questions about loss, meaning, and mortality--questions we can no longer put off or ignore--that we continue to grow.  In fact, the realization of our full spiritual potential comes about not by avoiding the challenges aging brings our way but by working through them.  Addressing head-on how to make the transition from fears about aging into a fuller, richer appreciation of the next phase of our lives, the authors guide you through 25 key questions that can help you embrace the shadow side of aging as well as the spiritual opportunities inherent in growing older. Sharing their stories and wisdom to both teach and demonstrate what it means to feel energized about the possibilities of your later years, they explore how to find a constructive role for regret, shame, and guilt, realize your value to society, and embrace the freedom of your later years to become more fully yourself.  Coming from Catholic Jesuit and Jewish backgrounds respectively, as well as drawing from the latest research in psychological and religious theory, Weber and Orsborn provide their own conversational and candid answers to the 25 key questions, supporting their insightful and compassionate guidance with anecdotes, inspirational readings, and spiritual exercises. By engaging deeply with both the shadow and light sides of aging, our spirits not only learn to cope--but also to soar. 00:32:00kelleyconnorsnohealthy aging, spirituality,Age,Healthcare, compassionate careAs we enter the years beyond midlife, our quest for an approach to aging takes on added urgency and becomes even more relevant in our daily lives. These are children under age 18, at least 1.2 million, who caregive for an ailing parent, grandparent or sibling on an ongoing basis. For many of these kids, they are caring for at least one parent or grandparent, with a chronic condition or a disabled lifestyle, resulting in school dropouts or inability to get the most out of school on an ongoing basis. “The main reason why children undertake inappropriate caring roles is a lack of adequate support services for their ill/disabled relatives. Rebecca Crichton, Executive Director, Northwest Center for Creative Aging  "I think we are looking at a big shift in how we think about aging and the way we need to talk about it. I agree with Bateson that we all have a fair amount of internalized Ageism in the same way women used to have a lot of internalized Sexism when they thought about the women’s movement."   Rebecca Crichton worked for The Boeing Company for 21 years as a professional writer, coach and facilitator specializing in teaching leadership principles to managers and designing and facilitating diversity awareness presentations. Since retiring in January 2011 she pursued a variety of creative and volunteer activities that fulfilled her need for her “3C’s” – Contribution, Collaboration and Creativity.  Rebecca recently started her ‘Encore Career’ as Executive Director of the Northwest Center for Creative Aging. Some are checking in on an elderly parent who is living alone, some are caring for a parent in their own home, some are visiting parents in assisted living or nursing facilities, and others are doing long distance caring. Whether well planned or unfolding as emergency, this a challenging task. It is one that necessitates changes, parent/child communication, family support, community services, shared information, financial resources, legal expertise, and medical care.
