Every relationship we enter follows five stages of development in a precise sequence.  These stages will progress unless there is a deliberate intervention on one's part to stop them.  What we must be cautious about is moving through each sequence too quickly or jumping past a stage.   For instance, you may have a great first impression and immediately begin to think of marriage.  Don't get it twisted!  You have not gone through the stages yet of getting to know the individual.  Slow your roll.

Think about this, just as a seed is planted in the ground, it takes time for it to develop and grow.

THE STAGES:

  • First Impression or the introductory stage:  when you view the outside of the individual or listen in
  • Acquaintanceship: when you move beyond the outer assessment
  • Deeper disclosure: when you begin to share private information
  • Friendship:  when you begin to build on the relationship, the trust comes after disclosure of information
  • Formalization:  when you make an announcement that you are a couple, it is know pubically.

So are you willing to go through the stages and allow it to progress?  Relationships require space, each person who comes into your life will take up some space.  How much are you willing to give?  The ones you want to nourish and flourish should receive more...  so can you handle that?

Let's talk tonight on the Stages of Relationship!

Host and Founder:  LaTonya Washington.  Co-Host:  Tshombe Tshanti.  Doc on Hand:  Dr. Monica.  Chat Room Moderator;  Juacclyn Nikol.
